Had mixed expectations about the movie since was not very sure whether Nivin could pull off such roles. I think he did a decent job much above my expectations :-) Might be problem with my expectations.
Other than the character of Kochunni taken from the history, I do not think it has much relation to the history. It is basically a Mass movie set in the backdrop of Historical Kerala and the hero given the name of Kochunni - The Bandit we all love.
First Half of the movie is strictly average with the exception of Annan's Intro. One Item Song and Malampaambu scene are the Koora scenes in first half. Rest are average scenes. The major lacking factor though is, in such Mass movies first hald do require some comedy scenes. That is completely lacking. Also the love track is not that convincing and just okay. Since the love track is not convincing the interval episode lacks the impact which it is intended to create. Anyway there came the much needed relief with Annan's intro. It could have been made much much better if it was a Mass director. Still good intro. First half ends with Annan's Intro.
Second half starts of the Pakki's philosphy and Kochunni's training and transformation into a Bandit. Not very convincing the whole sequence. Sequence just put to satisfy Lal Fans. Works well with fans. For others it is okay. Annan has done it well with the exception of dialogue rendering. Then comes the new life of Kochunni as a Bandit. Here we expect some thrilling heist operations but nothing like that is scene. There are some good action choreography but nothing that thrills you. Then the episode of Saviour of the poor, Fight against rich people, Getting caught etc etc... Climax Sequence is good and I could hear very good response for the same. Thanks to the good climax sequence I think people are leaving the movie hall on a positive note.

Script - Lacks the punch and does not do any justice to history. More like a Masala movie.
Songs
Overall Summary - A non historical mass movie set in the backdrop of history. Families might like it due to the character Kochunni and some good senti sequences. For me an Above Average movie.
