BMRCL opens bids for ORR Metro line




After much dilly-dally, the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (BMRCL) on Tuesday opened bids for the construction of the 18-km Outer Ring Road (ORR) Metro Line between Central Silk Board and KR Puram. Officials, however, plan to award the contract only after getting approval from the project Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA). The BMRCL is yet to get Centre’s final clearance for the 56-km ORR-airport Metro project.

Sources said Afcons Infrastructure Ltd and Shankaranarayana Constructions emerged as the lowest bidders for constructing two packages of the ORR Metro line. The bids were re-invited in December last year after the BMRCL had cancelled the first tenders that were called sometime in 2018. A part of Shapoorji Pallonji Group, Mumbai-based Afcons quoted Rs 785 crore for building 9.8-km elevated corridor and six Metro stations (Package 1). They are: Central Silk Board, HSR Layout, Agara, Iblur, Bellandur, Kadubeesanahalli. The contract also includes construction of 2.84-km flyover at Central Silk Board. In the tender, the BMRCL’s estimate of the project was around Rs 731 crore.

Shankaranarayana Constructions emerged the lowest bidder in package 2 of the 18-km ORR section. The company quoted Rs 623 crore to construct 9.77-km of Metro corridor and seven Metro stations such as Kodibeesanahalli, Marathahalli, ISRO, Doddanekundi, DRDO Sports Complex, Saraswathi Nagar and KR Puram. The contract also includes construction of the 1.09-km Metro line to Baiyappanahalli depot. Both the contractors will get 27 months to complete the work.

Interestingly, many companies which have been associated with the BMRCL in past contracts have quoted much more. Firms such as ITD, L&T, NCC have emerged L3 (lowest bidder) or L4 in both the packages. Only Afcons, which has bagged one packages of the underground Metro corridor of Phase II, has bid aggressively for both the packages.

Karnataka approves plan to extend metro rail from Bommasandra to Hosur


The MP said he will soon meet CM MK Stalin to discuss the proposal.





KRISHNAGIRI: Karnataka has given approval to extend the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (BMCRL) metro project from Bommasandra to Hosur in TN for a length of 20.5 km, informed Krishnagiri MP Dr A Chellakumar. Also, Karnataka has asked Tamil Nadu government to conduct a study to implement the project.

Chellakumar told reporters on Wednesday that BMRCL had sent a proposal to the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs ( MoHUA) in this regard on May 23. "The Phase-2 of BMRCL metro rail project is being implemented up to Bommasandra from RV Road metro station of Phase-1. Adding to this, a 20.5 km stretch till Hosur in Tamil Nadu was approved by Karnataka Chief Minister. Of this, 11.7 km falls in Karnataka and the remaining 8. 8 km is in Tamil Nadu. Karnataka government approved the proposal and stated that Tamil Nadu can conduct a study for metro line between Bommasandra to Hosur," the proposal stated.

The MP added that since the corridor from Bommasandra to Hosur will traverse between two states, coordination in sharing the project cost and monetary support between the two States is needed.
The MP had raised the issue of extending metro service in Lok Sabha and the same was noted down by BMRCL in its proposal to MoHUA.
Chellakumar said, "This is the dream project for thousands of people in Hosur, who regularly commute to work to Bengaluru. If the project is implemented, it will benefit people of both States socially and economically."

The MP said he will soon meet CM MK Stalin to discuss the proposal. He will also write to the Karnataka CM urging him to conduct a detailed project report for the project.

Global Livability Index 2022: Bengaluru, ranked 146, scores least among Indian cities


The other four Indian cities on the list also did poorly. Delhi (140) was followed by Mumbai (141), Chennai (142) and Ahmedabad (143).

Bengaluru may have topped the Union government's Ease of Living Index last year, but Karnataka's capital city fared the worst among Indian cities in the Economic Intelligence Unit's (EIU) Global Livability Index 2022, which was released on June 24.

For the first time, a total of five Indian cities featured on the list; before 2022, only Delhi and Mumbai were featured. For the current edition, the index was expanded to include Ahmedabad, Bengaluru and Chennai as well.
However, each of the five performed poorly, being listed between 140 and 146. India's IT capital was ranked 146 with a total livability score of 54.4. Delhi, the national capital, and financial capital Mumbai were ranked 140 (score 56.5) and 141 (score 56.2) respectively. Chennai and Ahmedabad were placed at 142 and 143 respectively, scoring 55.8 and 55.7.

Why Bengaluru did so bad?
The metropolis, which houses several multinationals and is also the preferred city for start-ups, attained a score of just 46.4 (out of 100) for infrastructure, the lowest among the five Indian cities.
EIU bases its infrastructure score on quality of roads, public transport, international links, energy provision, telecommunications, water, and availability of good quality housing.
Known for its gardens, Bengaluru has, in recent years, also faced severe flak for its ‘concrete jungles’. It is also infamous for its traffic jams.
Pakistan's largest metropolis, Karachi, was ranked among the five least livable cities but did better than Bengaluru in infrastructure, scoring 51.8. Nigeria's Lagos, the most populous city in Africa, was ranked the third least livable city, but scored as much as Bengaluru for infrastructure.

The EIU takes the following five factors into consideration for its annual livability index: stability (25%), culture and environment (25%), healthcare (20%), infrastructure (20%), and education (10%).
A total of 173 cities are analysed for this index. This year's list is topped by Austria's capital Vienna, while the least livable is Syria's capital Damascus.

Australia’s Prime Minister Anthony Albanese announced Wednesday the opening of a new Australian Consulate in Bengaluru this month, a day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi said India will open a consulate in Brisbane as part of the efforts of the two countries to enhance bilateral ties.

Addressing a joint press conference in Sydney, Albanese said the opening up of the Consul-General in Bengaluru will be the fifth diplomatic mission in India, after New Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, and Kolkata. “Expanding Australia’s diplomatic footprint to Bengaluru will connect Australian businesses to India’s booming digital economy and innovation ecosystem, and reinforce our growing links in science and technology. And I welcome India’s plans for a consul general in Brisbane,” he added.

In 2021, during the Bangalore Tech Summit, then prime minister of Australia Scott Morrison had announced the setting up of a consulate in Bengaluru considering the city to be one of the world’s fastest-growing technology hubs and home to several unicorns.

ഒട്ടേറെ വ്യവസായസ്ഥാപനങ്ങളുള്ള ഹൊസൂരിനെ ഇലക്*ട്രോണിക്* സിറ്റിക്ക് സമീപമുള്ള ബൊമ്മസാന്ദ്രയുമായി ബന്ധിപ്പിച്ച് 20.5 കിലോമീറ്റർ പാതയാണ് നിർമിക്കാൻ ഉദ്ദേശിക്കുന്നത്. ഇതിൽ 11.7 കിലോമീറ്റർ കർണാടകത്തിലും 8.8 കിലോമീറ്റർ തമിഴ്*നാട്ടിലുമായിരിക്കും. സൗത്ത് ബെംഗളൂരുവിലെ ആർ.വി. റോഡിനെ ബൊമ്മസാന്ദ്രയുമായി ബന്ധിപ്പിക്കുന്ന ബെംഗളൂരു മെട്രോയുടെ യെല്ലോ ലൈൻ ഈ വർഷം ഡിസംബറിൽ തുറക്കും. അതിന്റെ തുടർച്ചയായാണ് പുതിയ പാത വരുക.


ഹൊസൂരിൽ ഇപ്പോൾ അശോക് ലെയ്*ലൻഡ്, ടൈറ്റൻ, ടി.വി.എസ്. മോട്ടോഴ്*സ് തുടങ്ങിയ സ്ഥാപനങ്ങളും 2000-ലേറെ ചെറുകിട വ്യവസായങ്ങളുമുണ്ട്. മെട്രോ പാത വഴി ബെംഗളൂരുവുമായി ബന്ധിപ്പിക്കപ്പെടുന്നതോടെ ഹൊസൂരിന്റെ വ്യവസായ വികസനം വേഗത്തിലാവുമെന്നാണ് സർക്കാർ കരുതുന്നത്.


കർണാടകത്തിന്റെയും തമിഴ്*നാടിന്റെയും അതിർത്തി പ്രദേശങ്ങളിൽ താമസിക്കുന്നവർ ജോലിസ്ഥലത്ത് എത്തുന്നതിന് ഇപ്പോൾ തിരക്കേറിയ ബസുകളെയാണ് ആശ്രയിക്കുന്നത്. മെട്രോ വന്നാൽ ഇവർക്ക് ഗതാഗതക്കുരുക്കിൽപ്പെടാതെ യാത്ര ചെയ്യാനാവും.

ഇരു സംസ്ഥാനങ്ങളെയും ബന്ധിപ്പിച്ച് മെട്രോ പാത നിർമിക്കണമെന്നത് തമിഴ്*നാടിന്റെ നിർദേശമായിരുന്നു. ഇതിന്റെ സാധ്യതാപഠനം നടത്തുന്നതിന് കഴിഞ്ഞവർഷം കർണാടകം അനുമതി നൽകി. കേന്ദ്ര നഗരവികസന മന്ത്രാലയത്തിന്റെ അംഗീകാരവും അതിന് ലഭിച്ചു. സാധ്യതാപഠനത്തിന് തമിഴ്*നാട് സർക്കാർ 75 ലക്ഷം രൂപ അനുവദിച്ചു. ടെൻഡർ നടപടികൾ സെപ്റ്റംബർ ഒന്നിന് ആയിരിക്കുമെന്നാണ് കരുതുന്നത്. പഠനഫലം അനുകൂലമാണെങ്കിലും പാതയുടെ നിർമാണച്ചെലവ് എങ്ങനെ പങ്കുവെക്കുമെന്നത് രണ്ടു സംസ്ഥാനങ്ങൾക്കുമിടയിൽ തർക്കവിഷയമായി മാറാൻ സാധ്യതയുണ്ട്.

രാജ്യത്ത് ഇപ്പോൾ നിലവിലുള്ള മിക്ക മെട്രോപാതകളും ഏതെങ്കിലും സംസ്ഥാനത്തുമാത്രം ഒതുങ്ങുന്നതാണ്. എന്നാൽ, ഡെൽഹി മെട്രോ ഉത്തർപ്രദേശിലെയും ഹരിയാണയിലെയും ചില നഗരങ്ങളെക്കൂടി ബന്ധിപ്പിക്കുന്നുണ്ട്.

ബെംഗളൂരു : ഹൊയ്*സാല രാജവംശത്തിന്റെ കാലത്ത് നിർമിക്കപ്പെട്ട കർണാടകത്തിലെ മൂന്നുക്ഷേത്രങ്ങൾകൂടി യുനെസ്കോയുടെ പൈതൃകപ്പട്ടികയിൽ. ഹാസൻ ജില്ലയിലെ ബേലൂർ ചെന്നകേശവക്ഷേത്രം, ഹാലേബീഡുവിലെ ഹൊയ്*സാലേശ്വരക്ഷേത്രം മൈസൂരു ജില്ലയിലെ സോമനാഥപുര കേശവക്ഷേത്രം എന്നിവയാണ് യുനെസ്കോ പൈതൃകപ്പട്ടികയിൽ ഉൾപ്പെടുത്തിയത്.

12, 13 നൂറ്റാണ്ടുകളിൽ നിർമിക്കപ്പെട്ട, അപൂർവമായ കൊത്തുപണികളും ശിലാലിഖിതങ്ങളുമുള്ള മൂന്നുക്ഷേത്രങ്ങളും നിലവിൽ ആർക്കിയോളജിക്കൽ സർവേ ഓഫ് ഇന്ത്യയാണ് പരിപാലിക്കുന്നത്. ‘സേക്രഡ് എൻസെംബിൾസ് ഓഫ് ഹൊയ്*സാലാസ്’ എന്ന വിശേഷണത്തോടെയാണ് ഇവയെ പൈതൃകപ്പട്ടികയിൽ ഉൾപ്പെടുത്തിയത്.


രാജ്യത്ത് പൈതൃകപ്പട്ടികയിൽ ഉൾപ്പെടുന്ന 42-ാമത് നിർമിതികളാണ് ഈ ക്ഷേത്രങ്ങൾ. നേരത്തേ കർണാടകത്തിൽനിന്ന് ഹംപി, ജൈന-ഹിന്ദു ക്ഷേത്രങ്ങളായ പട്ടടക്കൽ, പശ്ചിമഘട്ടം എന്നിവയും പൈതൃകപ്പട്ടികയിൽ ഉൾപ്പെട്ടിരുന്നു. പട്ടികയിൽ ഇടം പിടിക്കുന്നതോടെ ലോകമെമ്പാടുമുള്ള വിനോദസഞ്ചാരികളും ഗവേഷകരും ക്ഷേത്രങ്ങൾ സന്ദർശിക്കാനും പഠിക്കാനുമെത്തും.

ഹൊയ്*സാല രാജാവായിരുന്ന വിഷ്ണുവർധനാണ് ബേലൂർ ചെന്നകേശവക്ഷേത്രവും ഹാലേബീഡു ഹോയ്*സാലേശ്വരക്ഷേത്രവും നിർമിച്ചത്. സോമനാഥപുരയിലെ കേശവക്ഷേത്രം നരസിംഹ മൂന്നാമന്റെ കാലത്തും പൂർത്തിയായി.
