Recently read Pakistan or partition of Indian by Dr B R Ambedkar.

It gives a good description about the forces which created our nation. Though written in a intellectually abstract way Ambedkar's view on the question of Pakistan is also very clear in the book.
The book is a bit slow in parts and could be heavy reading for many people.
In my opinion the book still retains relevance in present day India.
Overall a good read for political junkies.

Back to fk after a long time, read two novels recently,Second hand time by svetlena alexievich and Aatmachaya by susmesh chandroth...

Second Hand Time,The Last Of The Soviets is a collection of first person narratives on the fall of communism and their experiences and thoughts post the breakdown of USSR.The author is vividly depicting the first hand experiences from various people around the country. She never tried to be analytical or subjective upon her own views regarding these issues. Most of the parts has a repetitive nature due to the similar happenings and the life of people and their sufferings, pains and dreams were similar..A bit long but worth a read..Rather than knowing more about the historical, social and political context of the fall, the book would help u to get a more humanistic descriptive on the issue.....

Aatmachaya by Susmesh chandroth, have read his paper lodge,D,9,Marine Canteen before.A sculpture creates his own dead fathers image into a sculpture and his mother cant believe it just as a replica, she falls in love with it ,have sex and shares her emotions and feelings with it. Ammu, 2nd character,a little girl who had lost her parents at very early age and brought up by a sex worker in a brothel, after knowing more about the delhi gang rape she wish to participate in the protests and leave her place.then she travels alone from delhi to various parts of india. Then a women writer,a typical bengali women, who writes a novel about the current happenings of india and later she finds out her own characters as rebels in the real life protests. So Susmesh has portrayed a wide range of characters in each odd and even chapters. The plot and characters may seem to be cliched, but still the book has its own soul, at least for most of the parts...so oru good weekend reading ayirikkum...
