Caroline Wozniacki beats Maria Sharapova at US Open

Top seed Caroline Wozniacki won an enthralling contest of big-hitting against Maria Sharapova to reach the quarter-finals of the US Open.Wozniacki, 20, gave her title-winning credentials a major boost with a 6-3 6-4 victory over the 2006 champion.

The Dane found the power that many doubted she possessed to beat Sharapova for the first time. She will face Dominika Cibulkova in the last eight after the unseeded Slovakian beat Svetlana Kuznetsova 7-5 7-6 (7-4).

Wozniacki's status as top seed had been questioned by some as she has yet to win a Grand Slam or even experience a victory against the leading names of the game such as the Williams sisters, Kim Clijsters, Justine Henin or, until Monday, Sharapova.

India-Pakistan pairing shows anything is possible - Tennis - Yahoo! Sports

NEW YORK (AP)—The best measure of what India’s Rohan Bopanna and Pakistan’s Aisam-Ul-Haq Qureshi accomplished at the U.S. Open could be found in the stands, not the scoreline.
The doubles team reached the U.S. Open final Wednesday, winning a match that brought the United Nations ambassadors from their long-at-odds countries to Flushing Meadows to sit in the stands together.
The idea of Pakistan and India on the same side of anything has long been considered unlikely. These neighboring countries have been through three wars since gaining independence from Britain in 1947 and spent almost all the time between in a state of distrust and heightened military tension.

Rafa has found new strength in his shots.. He has put on muscles.. I think this guy is gonna overtake federer in the total number of grandslams, sooner or later.. after all he is only 24..

    Rafa

though i am a fan of Rafa, i still think he does not possess the elegance of fedex.. but i wud luv to see rafa overtake federer..
