An interesting tidbit is that Julia Jentsch who played the title role in Sophie Scholl, had a small role in Downfall.

I have seen only 3 German movies - Das Experiment, Downfall and now Sophie Scholl. The first 2 are classics while Sophie is an extremely well made film. There are two more German movies I am planning to watch soon.

    1. The Lives of Others (2006), which won the Oscar in 2007.
    2. Four Minutes (2006), a critically acclaimed movie about an elderly piano teacher trains a young convict at a women's prison.

Lives of Others has been released in high definition blu-ray format and so it's only a question of finding the right time (and mood) to watch it. But Four Minutes is still in DVD and I am not sure if proper English subtitles are available for this German film.

Well better add to ur list....
Herzog's Aguirre, the Wrath of God

and Fritz Lang's influential masterpiece M...... and Metropolis
a good example of German Expressionism.

The only three German films I've seen.

    Thumbs up Miike's 1999 film

    Dead or Alive (1999)
    by Takashi Miike

    This movie is quit weird.
As it has this crazy montage in the beginning....

and a crazy ending!....it just so illogical and different....

the rest of the film goes on like a typical investigation drama.

Most people who are not used to Miike's style might hate this film...

Overall, it was an interesting film....cool opening....
    quite entertaining!

    7.5/10

I heard the sequel to this film is even much better....

    Thumbs down The Transporter

    The Transporter (2002)
    by Corey Yuen

    (script by Luc Besson)
Thought about going on seeing Yuen's HW flick....
I heard about this film way back when...and it has spanned two sequels.
Though I just saw it last week. Overall it had some cool editing in it...and an interesting beginning....but then things just went downstream...
The ending was very predictable and cliched.

I guess people who are very into actions films might be entertained...
though for me, I just didn't like it overall...

the film is a mix HK actions films + a James Bond type flick...
