Salala Mobiles - Low on Features

Movie - Salala Mobiles

Review
---------
Debutant Director Sarath Haridasan's new movie 'Salala Mobiles' is quite like a gadget that looks glossy from a distance but when you start using it, you realize that its not worth the money. The movie has a leading pair who are great to look at. Dulquer Salmaan is handsome and cute, while Nazriya Nazim is eloquent beauty on display but how long can one keep looking at them with nothing much playing out on screen? This is the dilemma which one goes through while watching 'Salala Mobiles'.
Negatives are many fold. Firstly, the characterizations are extremely weak. Be it Dulquer as 'Afsal' or Nazriya as 'Shahana', there is no single character that would stay in your mind after the movie. Its simply because they have not been build beyond being caricatures. All that may stay with you are some good looks of the leading pair. Secondly, the script keeps going up and down, fluctuating like the signal reader on a mobile device in a remote area. It stays mostly low with some interesting points in the first half. Second half also proceeds in same fashion and one tends to think the movie is just meandering on without a purpose. And then comes the climax which looks so unbecoming of a climax, that one cant believe the build up and the end. All the patience held up till then may vanish and disappointment sets in. Thirdly, direction looks below par with many portions simply playing on without a purpose and much needed bits unavailable or edited off so that things dont seem to gel. Fourthly, the cast looks quite uninspired with nothing much to play for.
Positives are quite less apart from the looks of the leading pair and few jokes by Gregory, who does Dulquer's side kick role yet again. The one positive perhaps is the central bit about mobile tapping application. It creates some interest based on its presentation. Also, the sequences of over hearing conversations were somewhat funny. But even that gets beaten to death many a times. Logic goes for a toss with a government being saved with a phone call and so on. Dulquer looks monotonous with the same 'awestruck' expression throughout the movie. Nazriya has nothing much to do except to walk around in a flowing dupatta and smiling to the the wind which keeps blowing at her all the time. It gets tiresome after a point.
Music is nothing great with a song heavily inspired from 'Piyu Bole' of 'Parineetha'. The much hyped Rap song comes at the end, by the time you are probably gunning for the exit gates already. Background score is usual Gopi Sundar stuff. Cinematography is nothing special with some eye candy song sequences and editing has been taken for a ride with the uneven progress.
In total. 'Salala Mobiles' may keep you interested with its glossy looks (especially if you are younger crowd) but only for a while. After that you would realize that this is heading no where and is quite hollow. It tries to be a fanatasy romantic movie without much of a story or even good characterizations, because of which it suffers and makes the audience do the same as well.
