    Movie - Honey Bee

Malayalam Industry's recent enthusiasm with extremes of intoxication world and open toilet humor continues with Debutant Director Lal Jr.'s 'Honey Bee'. The usp of such movies as an 'experience' seems to be that the young get to enjoy with their friends, the type of humor and lines which for them seem to be 'a step further' on screen (considering the closed society they are brought up in). But the intriguing question for a normal viewer each time such a movie comes, is that how entertaining and good it is, beyond the thrill of these lines..

'Honey Bee' is set at the mecca of movies made in this genre which is Fort Kochi. The movie begins on an average note with dance performance and ganster scene. With the introduction of the gang of friends and following meeting between Angel and her would-be, things start to take an upwards swing. The entire kidnapping episode and up until the interval travels on a pretty watchable mode. Mind you, be ready to accomodate humor related to adult themes, bad english, toilet jokes to slang words which may make no sense. By interval, the experience seems to be pretty much watchable.

The second half is where the movie starts to falter. With the gang on the run, the jokes tend to dry up and the pace slackens. It tries to pick up again during the road chase scene and some twists in the end. Also, the ending scenes which go in a slow mode even though the end is as expected. The movie at large seems to take 'Delhi Belly' and 'Hangover' as the Bible, just like all other movies to have come out recently in this genre.

In terms of performances, Baburaj, Srinath Bhasi, the actor who played 'Arnold', Lal Sr. seem to carry most parts of the movie. Bhavana is so-so. Asif is numb and irritating, many a times. Direction is imaginative at times but average at others. Its more of a dialogue humor based proceedings, so needs to be taken in that sense. Cinematography and Editing are competent. Music is average.

To sum it up, keep your expectations low and be mentally ready/open to the kind of humor which may be completely not your ball game. If you are game for that, then it may be an ok watch. For others, watch at your own risk.
