Movie - Up and Down Mukalil Oraal Ondu
24/5/13, 11pm @ Q cinemas, Kochi
Review
---------
Director T.K Rajeevkumar's recent movies have been enough to create skepticism in viewer's mind, before getting ready to watch his new flick 'Up and Down Mukalil Oraal Ondu'. But since the attempt at this premise seems relatively new and with the looks of a thriller, one may have an idea to venture to the theatres to take a peek. But much before the end of the movie, one may tend to realise this was an absolutely bad idea.
The movie opens with premises of a flat and a lift which seems very relatable. But soon we understand that the scenes look like a staged drama. Everything is as per convenience. Even the lift waits for the actors to complete their dialogues before it would close or make a move. Characters are loud and over the top. But nevertheless one may think something worthwhile is coming ahead. Movie travels through some poorly written scenes and dialogues. Many of them become unintentionally funny. The lift gets stuck and then its an attempt to bide time before a dramatic incident that leads to the interval. At the interval, the movie is definitely Average to Below Average.
Post Interval there is no respite. There may be a few interesting scenes here and there but its too much bargain for the silly things going on screen. Director keeps providing us excuses for the delay in opening the lift and rescuing the trapped. Excuses come one after the other. A drunk lift mechanic, a fire force which wont be called by the police officer for avoiding controversy and lift company service men who get caught in traffic. But after a point one would say, please dont give us such hard excuses because we dont bother anymore. By the end, killer gets revealed which seems guessable but rather decently done compared to rest of the movie.
Writing is quite amateurish to say the least, especially the dialogues. Most of the lines become unintentionally funny. Acting is bad. Prathap Poten keeps hamming and is over the top. Nandu tries hard at comedy and becomes irritating after a while. The anchor turned actress Shruthi gets the worst performer tag easily. Indrajith and Remya nambeeshan cut a sorry figure most of the times, as they have nothing much to do. Meghna Raj is ok.
Direction seems silly at times and there is no logic or reason to much of the proceedings. Its almost as if its a compulsion to be trapped in the lift and keep investigating a murder inside it. It surely does not seem to impress the least.
In summary, there is nothing much to write about this movie which makes you rave about it.........Do yourself a favour, give this one a skip.
Verdict - Pathetic
Rating - 1/5
