Fisherman's Review of Drishyam 2

Had a mixed expectations on this movie since was not clear how will they pull off a sequel for Drishyam. Usually sequels end up as disasters in Malayalam. But this one is different. It has come out pretty well though not near to Part 1.


Following the pattern of Part 1, Part 2 also focus on family emotions and bonding in 1st Half and then the thrilling part in the 2nd Half. 1st Half is a let down with artificial emotions and scare scenarios. Drishyam Part 1 first half of family bonding also had some good humour scenarios of a typical middle class family. That is lacking in Part 2 and to be frank 1st Half lags at times.


Then starts the Cop episodes with several twists and turns. It is thrilling at times but predictable otherwise. Some of the twists are good but some are mediocre. Do not expect the thrill we got in Part 1. If you expect the same, you might be disappointed. The major planning and execution of Georgekutty which we saw in Part 1, is missing in Part 2. Do not want to tell much details as it could be spoilers. Also unlike Georgekutty being an ordinary man in Part 1, in Part 2 I felt he is transforming from an ordinary man to larger than life hero.


It is definitely a good movie but might not be extraordinary as Part 1. But I would say it is definitely best of Jeetu after Drishyam Part 1.


Coming to Lal - He is just excellent. After a long time we could see him back with his acting skills. His make up seems over during several shots, but his portrayal of the character is the show stealer in this movie.

1st half could have been shorter.
Missing the thrill we got in Part 1. Will definitely miss the Climax Goosbumps we got in Part 1.


Overall Summary - A good family movie with lot of twists and turns. Very good to watch at home. In theatres definitely there are some goosebumps scenes in 2nd Half but not sure how the 1st Half lag will turn out in theatres. There is enough to attract families though.
