Akshay aces again.




Braving all criticism and brickbats, Akshay Kumar starrer Khatta Meetha is already in profits and a surprise success.

Akshay Kumar appears to have the luck of the devil. While most critics have written off his latest release Priyadarshan's Khatta Meetha, the film has managed to make a profit.

Khiladi Kumar's common man role and his restrained performance have gone down well with the audiences, particularly in the single screen theatres and the film has grossed over Rs 20 crore in the first three days of its release.

Just like Wanted.

It's a case similar to last year's Salman Khan starrer Wanted which did excellent business in the single screen theatres though it didn't fare that well in multiplexes. Ultimately, a film being a hit of a flop depends on the budget and its selling cost.

The film was sold at Rs 30 crore. A TV channel bought satellite rights for Rs 12 crore, overseas rights went for Rs 5 crore, Rs 4 crore for music and Rs 2 crore for home video rights. To sum it up, the film had already made Rs 23 crore even before the release.

Release ke pehle... hit!.

A trade source adds, "Khatta Meetha was made with a budget of Rs 30 crore (including print and publicity) and has already made Rs 48 crore in pre-sold rights and digital revenues even before the movie hit screens on Friday."

Says Priyadarshan, "Three things worked for Khattha Meetha: Akshay attempted to do something different. Secondly, it is a clean, family film. And last but not least, Akki put in an earnest performance."

Akshay, who is currently in Toronto says, "It turned out to be a win-win situation as they bought the film under recession. If my distributors are happy I am happy. Also I'm pleased that the film has worked with the masses. The film is about the common man and if they have liked it, that works for me."

Priyan feels his films are for the common man and that's why they are accepted despite poor reviews. "Some of my films that have been critically acclaimed have not worked with the janta."

'A new strategy'.

Dhilin Mehta from Ashtavinayak says, "In order to save on production cost, some producers in B-Town are trying a new strategy. They jointly produce movies with one or two other production houses with at least one very popular star cast and another regional star for a B-town mainstream film. Such joining of forces drastically reduces cost of production and all players bring their specific expertise to the table. Post recession, Khatta Meetha is the first product where the producers have done precisely that."

Akshay - Priyanka still in touch?.





Akshay Kumar and Priyanka Chopra, whose link up stories had spelled trouble in Akshay-Twinkle Khanna’s marriage, are still keeping in touch through phone.

Sources close to Priyanka have it that, “Priyanka and Akshay are regularly in touch through phone. They often call and SMS each other.”

It’s known that Akki-Priyanka friendship doesn’t go down well with Twinkle. Mrs. Kumar had incorporated a clause on all of Akshay Kumar’s film contracts which read, ‘Akshay will not do a film with Priyanka’.

And though the obedient husband is sticking to the diktat, he has his ways of keeping in touch with Priyanka. Now, if the duo are just good friends or if there’s more to the relationship is something only time will tell.

Singh is King Sequel: Akshay Kumar to wrestle The Great Khali.


Previously Bollywood superstar and martial arts freak Akshay Kumar had worked with the Undertaker in Khiladiyon Ka Khiladi and now, he is all set to wrestle with The Great Khali in his next movie ‘Singh is King’ Sequel. Khali has previously starred in Hollywood flicks like The Longest Yard (2005) and Get Smart (200 and this movie with Akshay Kumar will be his first movie in Hindi.



Bollywood’s favorite action hero would be seen fighting with eight WWE wrestlers from Australia in an action sequence in Vipul Shah’s Singh Is King. Says director Anees Bazmee,” We had called some eight wrestlers who all are from WWE. They were all very excited to be a part of Singh Is King. Apart from shooting with Akshay, they all spoke to him at length about his films. I was surprised that few of them had even seen his films. They all shared a very good rapport with Akshay and there was this very famous wrestler called Chris who even taught him some tricks in arm-wrestling.”

Sajid Khan will be directing Akshay instead of Anees Bazmee, according to sources. Akki has been playing a Sikh in the movie ‘Singh Is King-2’. Vipul is almost ready with the script and has selected same cast Akshay and Katrina for the sequel. The sequel is probable to begin where the first Singh Is King trailed off. As per reports Vipul has stated, “Yes, after much planning and plotting, and two years since the first film, we’ve finally cracked an idea that works. My writer Suresh Nair and I are happy with what we’ve come up with. And yes I’ll be directing the sequel.”

The shooting of the movie will be begun by mid-2010, as Katrina is completely booked till next year. Akshay is currently busy with Patiala House and Katrina Kaif is in Spain shooting for Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara. As per report, Akshay is dedicating ‘Singh is King 2′ to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh ji. This movie has 17 Main actors and 150 junior artistes.

When we asked Akshay Kumar why he chose to make the movie with Sajid Nadiadwala and not Vipul Shah (co-producer of Singh is King), he clarified, “Yeah, this film is happening. I was the producer for Singh is King and so I have the rights to make the sequel. Vipul dost hai, lekin he is busy. Toh humne kaha chalo hum khud hi kuch bana lenge!”

It would be interesting to watch Akshay wrestle Khali. Of-course, since it’s a film, Akshay’s gonna win the fight. On being questioned if he was still young and fit enough to wrestle a 7 ft. 3” tall and 430lbs heavy WWE superstar, Akshay sounded uncomfortable but then goofily said, “ Pehle toh maine Sajid se kaha, Khali koi chota mota anaar daana nahi hai… junglon mein ghoomta hai woh…bachhe ki jaan lega kya? …Hahahaha …Hahahahahah… Hahahahah… Hahahaha…ha ha ha….ha ha… ha…ha…” (Stops laughing on realizing that we aren’t laughing) “Vahe Guru saath hai mere…and Singh is King!”

Trade predicts a winner in ACTION REPLAYY.




It appears that good friends; producer-director Vipul Shah and 'Khiladi' Akshay Kumar, are right on track to keep their cent per cent success record via their forthcoming project ACTION REPLAYY, which will be their fourth film after AANKHEN, WAQT-RACE AGAINST TIME and NAMASTEY LONDON.

Not many will know that the film which is based on Vipul Shah's very own Gujarati play (of the same name), would have been his debut movie but things did not work out and instead it was with AANKHEN that Vipul opened his Bollywood account. ACTION REPLAYY is about son trying to re-ignite the dying romance in the lives of his parents, who are at loggerheads. In doing so his parents are transported back in time.

As per the trade ACTION REPLAYY indeed has it all to strike gold at the ticket window because those who have seen the show reel of the Akshay Kumar - Aishwarya Rai Bachchan starrer are unanimous in their prediction that the film is a sure shot winner.

Well, that would indeed be great news for Bollywood and all concerned with ACTION REPLAYY which is indeed getting hotter with each passing day.

‘Housefull’ faces stay order.




The Madras High Court on Tuesday issued a stay on Sajid Khan’s ‘Housefull’, in response to a petition filed on behalf of popular Tamil producer P L Thennappan, who claimed that the Akshay Kumar starrer was based on ‘Kadhala Kadhala’. Following the order, the film will not be telecasted on Indian satellite television and cable.

In his petition, Thenappan said that he was the owner of the rights of the Kamal Haasan-Prabhu Deva starrer movie and he had not sold it to anyone. “However, ‘Housefull’ is based on ‘Kadhala Kadhala’,” he said. He further added that the Hindi film included nearly 60 per cent of the scenes from ‘Kadhala Kadhala’. The producer also said that he was in talks with producer Sajid Nadiadwala about selling the remake rights and the deal did not go through.

A comedy caper, ‘Housefull’ also includes Deepika Padukone, Arjun Rampal, Ritesh Deshmukh, Lara Dutta, Jiah Khan and Boman Irani.

Akshay offers Seasonal Flavours.


Akshay Kumar has a packed year ahead with an exciting line up of films to be released through all seasons of the year.



Akshay Kumar has three releases coming up this year. After a smashing hit with “Housefull”, the actor is now looking forward to priyadarshan’s “Khatta Meetha” followed by Vipul Shah’s “Action Replay” and Farah Khan “Tees Maar Khan”. All the three films look bright and have fair chances to set the cash registers ringing in.

It’s intresting to note that Akshay’s films have beed timed quite strategically, with all three films releasing in three different seasons. While “Housefull” came in the summer holidays, Khata Meetha is releasing in the peak of monsoons. Add to this a Diwali release for Action Replay and Tees Maar Khan during Christmas holidays and things couldn’t have been timed better for the superstar.

Akshay Kumar to produce foreign films.




Actor Akshay Kumar who recently hosted a dinner for PM Manmohan Singh and his Canadian counterpart Stephen Harper, is co-producing an Indo- Canadian film ‘Break Away’ starring Canadian-born Emily Van Camp who shot to fame with television series ‘Brothers and Sisters’. The film would be directed by Robert Lieberman who is a television and movie director in Canada.

If sources are to be believed, it is not the only international project Akshay Kumar is planning to produce, rather his production banner Hari Om Productions is looking forward to have more such foreign collaborations.

Akshay Kumar's Sardar look in Patiala House.


One of the eagerly awaited films is the Akshay Kumar - Anushka Sharma starrer Patiala House directed by Nikhil Advani. The film, which was earlier scheduled to release in the latter half of this year, is now arriving on Feb 10 2011. Nikhil Advani and his team have been working round-the-clock to ensure that they have a winner on hands. The team has also created a special Patiala House page on popular networking site Facebook which features interesting trivia, photos and videos from all the action that happened behind the scenes of this film. We bring you a few snapshots of the same.



Patiala House features an ensemble cast comprising of Rishi Kapoor, Dimple Kapadia, Akshay Kumar and Anushka Sharma. The mahurat clap of the film was given by none other than Karan Johar who gave Nikhil Advani his first break with Kal Ho Naa Ho.

After the super-success of Singh Is Kinng, Akshay will once again be seen as a Sardar in this flick. This alone will be good enough reason for Akki fans to flock to the theatres when Patiala House opens early next year. The film has been extra-special for Nikhil Advani as he got a chance to direct one of his favourite actors Rishi Kapoor.

Patiala House deals with a large Punjabi family based in Southall, London. One of the first things which Nikhil Advani and his team did was to create a family tree depicting the various members of the family. Says Nikhil, "I thought that it would be quite something to put out the Patiala House family tree. This was made before even the script was completed. A list of characters and how they are all connected to each other. This family tree has been modified, slashed, revised several times over the past year. But it was the beginning of Patiala House."

Akshay Kumar turns Sardar once again in ‘Patiala House’.




Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar, once again will be seen donning the role of a Sikh (after the successful portrayal of a Sardar in hit film ‘Singh Is Kinng’) in his upcoming film ‘Patiala House.’

As per several tabloids reports, in the film ‘Patiala House’, Akki will be seen rubbing shoulders with top international cricket players as he is portraying the role of a cricketer in the film.

‘Patiala House’ is directed by Nikhil Advani and features stars like Rishi Kapoor, Dimple Kapadia and Anushka Sharma, apart from action-cum-comedy hero Akshay Kumar.

The film, which was supposed to be released in the latter half of this year, will now be releasing on Feb. 10, 2010, as per sources familiar with the matter.

‘Patiala House’ is one of the most awaited film of Akshay, where he will be seen portraying the role of a fast bowler in England’s cricket team.

Reportedly, to get his act right for the role, Akshay took bowling lessons from the veteran Indian cricketer Balwinder Singh Sandhu.

Some of the scenes in the film have been shot at the world famous stadiums like The Oval and Lords in London.

Reportedly, the film also boosts of featuring some of the real life cricketers alongside Akki such as former English player David Gower, Pakistani Kamran Akmal and Balwinder Singh Sandhu.
