Aamir Khan tries to oust Akshay Kumar.

The makers of Talaash have asked single screen owners to allow an uninterrupted two-week run to their film, which in turn will affect Akshay's Khiladi 786

The Diwali battle between the makers of Son Of Sardar and Jab Tak Hai Jaan is hardly over, and a new set of filmmakers have already drawn out their swords.TOI has learnt that the producers of Aamir Khan starrer Talaash, Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar have asked single screen exhibitors to allow a two-week run for their venture that releases on November 30. This will affect Akshay Kumar's Khiladi 786 that hits the theatres a week later.

According to a trade source, exhibitors aren't too pleased with the constant war between filmmakers over screening space. "First YRF asked single screen owners to give their Diwali release starring Shah Rukh Khan as many screens as Salman Khan's Ek Tha Tiger. This put a lot of pressure on most exhibitors since Ek Tha Tiger was a single big Eid release and on Diwali there were two big films. And now, the makers of Talaash are asking for a continuous two-week run. Ideally, most theatre owners would like to decide on the film's second week run after assessing the response in the first week," said the source.

When contacted, trade analyst Amod Mehra opined, "YRF started this trend. Hereafter no big film will be assured of a decent release. This sparks off a very unhealthy trend in the industry."

Distributor Ramesh Sippy however, chose to differ. According to him there is nothing wrong with Talaash producers asking exhibitors for a two-week uninterrupted run. "Business is never healthy. Also, it is not necessary that a two-week run is implied to essentially kill the next big movie-in-line. The idea could be to let the distributor have the upper hand. Else, sometimes the exhibitors are rather merciless," he told us.

Sippy, who also runs the Chitra Cinema in Dadar added, "I have not decided on Talaash yet. I shall decide when the time comes." Mehra however believes that it will be rather tough for single screen owners to reject Talaash's offer. "Who doesn't want to screen a Aamir Khan film?" he said.

In the meanwhile, the battle between Ajay Devgn's SOS and SRK's film is far from over. After the Competition Commission of India rejected the complaint filed by the makers of SOS alleging YRF of anti-competitive practices, Devgn has now made an appeal to the Competition Appellate Tribunal. The tribunal has ordered an enquiry into the matter with less than a week left before the films hit the theatres.

Akshay Kumar’s charity plans for Diwali.

Besides the festivity and fun, Diwali tends to bring lots of air pollution. And when the young children of one of Akshay Kumar’s friends learnt about the extreme damage that bursting crackers causes to the environment, they decided to do something noble with the money they had saved up for the
    festival.

The actor’s childhood friend Ravi Karle’s kids, Tejas (17) and Gayatri (13), had collected Rs. 11,000 each to buy crackers. But now, they have asked Akshay to donate that money on their behalf towards a charitable cause. “Last year, Akshay had a long chat with them and he explained to them what bursting crackers does to the environment,” says an insider close to Akshay.

As a result, the kids refused to spend the money on firecrackers this year. They only spent a small amount on some sparklers and phuljharis (diwali crackers).

“A few days ago, when the two went to meet Akshay with their father, they handed him two cheques collectively worth Rs. 22,000. They asked Akshay to send the money to a cause he truly feels needs the help,” adds the insider. Since the actor has only received the money recently, he is yet to decide whether he should give the funds to a charitable organisation or an individual.

“Since it is Diwali, he is hoping he can give it to someone who doesn’t have the means to truly celebrate the festival. He has already asked his staff to keep an eye out for any people who might really need the money,” adds the insider. Although Akshay remained unavailable for comment, Karle says: “For around a year, the cheques have been lying with us. But now, the kids are happy that they have handed them over to Akshay.”

Rajesh Khanna’s ‘live-in partner’ files case against Dimple, Twinkle, Akshay.

Three months after actor Rajesh Khanna died, Anita Advani — who claims to have been his live-in partner for nearly a decade — has filed a domestic violence case against Khanna’s wife Dimple, their daughters Twinkle and Rinkie, and son-in-law and actor Akshay Kumar.
Magistrate S S Deshpande has asked the family to file their say on or before November 27. In a domestic violence case filed before the Bandra Magistrate court on Wednesday, Advani claimed that as she was Khanna’s live-in partner since 2003, she is entitled to his property. She also said she was forcibly evicted from his sprawling Carter Road residence Aashirwad.
Alleging that Khanna’s family manipulated the will, Advani sought protection under the Domestic Violence Act and re-entry into the house. In her application, she further stated that under Section 19 of the Act, the magistrate may, on being satisfied that domestic violence has taken place, pass a residence order restraining the respondent from “dispossessing or in any other manner disturbing the possession of the aggrieved person from the shared household whether or not the respondent has a legal or equitable interest in the shared household”, and that the family is guilty of evicting her from the house.
Advani’s lawyer Manohar Shetty said in case the court doesn’t help her get possession of the bungalow, she seeks Rs 50 crore compensation under Section 20 of the Act.
Advani is an entrepreneur and niece of former Philippines president Ferdinand Emmanuel Marcos.

Akshay Kumar to endorse Vijay Mallya's packaged water.

It looks like Akshay Kumar is in for a major image makeover. The actor who is known for his 'clean' image is apparently all set to endorse a brand that is owned by industrialist Vijay Mallya and that also produces alcohol.

Naturally, the actor's decision to do so has set tongues wagging in the industry. Our industry insider says, "Akshay has always played by the rules of healthy living. He doesn't party and even works out religiously. He is also very religious. Though he will endorse only the bottled water manufactured by the company, it is surprising that he would agree to support the brand as a whole."

A friend of the actor however states, "Akshay is not endorsing the alcoholic product. He will only be the face of the packaged drinking water. He will be replacing Abhay Deol in the ad and apparently a pretty expensive financial deal has been inked."

An industry insider points out, "Ever since a ban was implied on alcohol advertising, some alcohol companies have come up with newer products under the same brand name. In fact, even Shah Rukh Khan, Saif Ali Khan and Ajay Devgn have inked similar deals in the past."

Shah Rukh, Ajay, Salman to make Shetty wedding a blockbuster?.

All thanks to Rohit Shetty’s proximity to some of the biggest names from the industry, several Bollywood arch-rivals are expected to be present. It definitely can't get bigger than this! Industrywallas are busy speculating about the comings and goings at director Rohit Shetty's sister Mehek's weekend wedding to designer Navin Shetty.

All thanks to Rohit Shetty's proximity to some of the biggest names from the industry, several Bollywood arch-rivals are expected to be present under the same roof during the ceremony.

From Shah Rukh Khan to Salman Khan, Rohit Shetty's good friend Ajay Devgn, Abhishek Bachchan and Akshay Kumar are all expected to attend the event, scanned by the many watchful eyes from the industry.

Will this Bollywood face-off be the biggest firecracker in action at this industry get-together?

    And the invitees are...

SRK and Rohit are working in Chennai Express. The two are often spotted hanging out together and are said to have become very good friends.

SRK is scheduled to be out of town but is likely to be back in Mumbai to attend the wedding.

Two days before taking on each other at the box office, SRK and Ajay Devgn will meet again. What will happen there is anyone's guess.

Ajay Devgn is believed to be the closest friend of Rohit Shetty in the industry. The two have done as many as eight films together, five of which have become blockbusters. The actor even treats Mehek as his own sister.

It is known that Ajay is extremely unhappy with the way YRF apparently arm-twisted exhibitors in screening SRK's Jab Tak Hai Jaan over Son of Sardaar.

Rohit Shetty and Salman Khan are the best of friends. Incidentally, their fathers too were thick friends.

Salman is likely to attend with his entire family

The most recent run-in between the two arch enemies was at the condolence meet for late Yash Chopra. The two avoided each other and a similar reaction is expected at Mehek's wedding too.

Abhishek Bachchan was a part of Rohit Shetty's debut film Zameen and also worked with him recently in Bol Bachchan. Both are very close to each other and Junior B was even present at Mehek's engagement. He is going to attend the wedding.

The tension between Abhishek and Salman is expected to be palpable, because of the latter's history with his wife Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. Accoring to reports, Rohit had personally gone to invite Akshay Kumar to attend the wedding ceremony. He is likely to attend the wedding.

Akshay Kumar and SRK are known to be cordial with each other. However, after SRK rejected Farah Khan's Tees Maar Khan, Akshay was roped in for the same role. SRK and Farah grew apart for a while, while Akshay's bond with the director grew stronger.

AR Murgadoss has become hotter after his Thuppakki took a gargantuan opening worldwide. Now he has decided to do the film in Hindi with Akshay Kumar doing Vijay’s role and Parineeta Chopra doing Kajal’s role.

Two years back Murgadoss had been signed by producer Vipul Shah to do a film in Hindi with Akshay Kumar. Initially the idea was to do Ramanna remake in Hindi, but it did not work out.

Actually the original Thuppakki story was first narrated to Akshay about a year back but he could not start the project due to his earlier commitment. The latest we hear is that Akshay has given priority dates to Murgadoss and wants to start the film immediately.

Murgadoss has said in an interview: “My next film is the Hindi remake of Thuppakki with Akshay Kumar and Parineeti Chopra for producer Vipul Shah, which should start rolling by December.”
