Valverde had a bad day in the office, embarrassed himself and the club in that match.
Let's not analyse that for what it is and just jump to the childish Pep better than Lucho, Lucho sucks! Lucho better than Valverde, Valverde sucks! Nonsense. Because it sells for public.

Comparing the eras of the three managers is straight stupid. It neglects almost everything that makes a manager's direction. In fact, if there is something to see there, it is their common virtue and biggest flaw of over-doing playing for the strength of their squads and ideas.

Pep built his team around Busquets-Xavi-Iniesta leading to that possession-based (not attacking based, btw) piece of art. Achieved big things. Then he ended up investing too much in that that we ended up with a team that forgets to score, circulating the ball all over the place.

Lucho looked around and saw AMSN (It's more accurate to add Alves to MSN there). If winning meant hoofing the ball from defensive third over the midfielders heads to AMSN up there to win, he didn't need to care about midfielders hating their lives out there. Overdid it. Declined.

Nw, what type of squads did Valverde start with? Good defenders, tactical mids, and two forwards in Messi and Suarez. And so he had a more mature structure tactically, but without Alves, Xavi, Neymar, and aging Iniesta it lacked the needed flair. It is all about using your cards.

And, same as Pep and Lucho were the victims of their focus on specific ideas, Valverde paid the price of that against AS Roma. The over-obsession in tactical clarity. Example: subs. When he knew what exactly he wanted from subs, it worked. Against AS Roma, he had no ideas, paused

And to be clear (seems like a need), that pause was a mistake. As a manager, if you know how to change a situation, you do so. If things are going free fall and you have no ideas (and it happens), you should just have the "Fuck it!" attitude, and just throw anything there.

Instead, he grabbed that straw, running the clock. Worried if jumping to the unknown and make it worse he decided not to try to change it. THAT is another flaw. As a manager, you should never give u on trying to regain control. More as a big club manager.

Valverde is far from being perfect. All his flaws combined creating a perfect storm against AS Roma. But save me the mas- amusing "He should play more offense! Coward!" Yes, the manager who used to press and attack FC Barcelona at Camp Nou with Athletic is suddenly a Mourinho.

Easy to zip a cup of tea and go fantasy football. When the lineup was served, no one complained. It was the right XI. The best possible. With the only 2 reliable forwards available, one of them is suspiciously fit, Iniesta, and tactical players. 1st 15 minutes were the plan.

In fact. Valverde compromised defensively by using Semedo as RB instead of Roberto and another physical midfielder (which made more sense for a defensive plan). AS Roma crowded midfield, Semedo panicked not only defensively, but also to make the overlapping runs. Just an example.

I can list 101 more examples where everything went wrong in that game. Valverde's crime was not is initial ideas, but his lack of involvement during the game. It seemed like he got as intimidated as Semedo, Umtiti, Alba, and the list is long. He should watch this match 101 times.

Are we playing poorly this season? That's in the eyes of the beholder tbh. Were we playing sexy possession asif Xavi, Iniesta and Busquets are at their peak running the midfield, No. Are we playing attacking football like having a 100 player with flair in the offense? No.

Is it playing poorly to score more goals than any other team in a league based competition (La Liga) and concede least in a cup based competition like UCL (Before Roma match)? Poorly and not so sexy are two different things. Like we used to play sexier but more naive sometimes.

We are playing to our strengths, considering the many things that still need tuning. We are dominating the league, in CDR final and we should've reached UCL semi-final if it wasn't for that AS Roma catastrophy. Next season, THIS barca isn't enough. This season: More good than bad

For next season, we already have a proven platform for results. We will not get into next season suffering the same chaotic cycle where super cup against RM raised the flag. Dembele, Semedo, Coutinho should add something. Alena and co should get a chance. We judge accordingly.

Or let's get back to the "Change the manager!" nonsense that we had as a habit and led to a club unable to reach a proper league position to qualify to UCL. A time when we cried after Rivaldo's goal Vs Valencia that didn't win us any title but got us back to UCL. Let's go crazy!

And this myth "He does not have the courage to make subs" is ridiculous btw. There were games where he subbed Iniesta for Denis, and it worked. There were times where he subbed Messi. He made more game-changing subs this season than any manager I can remember. And I remember.

Finally, keep club legends like Pep and Lucho out of casual tweeting. Don't drag them to the mud of ill-spirited agendas. What will be the counter argument there? Bringing back their biggest mistakes to light? No real fan will go there. So, don't hide behind them to rant freely.

    || MATCH REVIEW ||
    Barcelona 5-1 Villareal

La Manita at Camp Nou. The champions walked on to the pitch through the pasillo and showed why they are champions. Simply majestic.

Ernesto Valverde experimented with an XI he has not fielded this season and it did more than just click. It was a 4-3-3 formation, with Coutinho and Dembele on the wings and Messi in his classic false 9 role. It was an absolute feast for the eyes as the hosts completely dominated the game except a few minutes in the second half.

As we had predited, Dembele and Semedo had a party down the right flank where they broke through Villareal defense with ease. Messi was in the center drawing defenders creating space in the wings. The first goal belongs to Ousmane Dembele who set on a mazy run to go past a couple of defenders. His shot was blocked by Asenjo, only for Coutinho to tap in.

The last minute of first half saw one of the classic Barcelona combinations teaming up for a goal. Messi was around the box dancing with defenders. He finds Iniesta outside with a pass and makes an incisive run. Iniesta of course, finds him with an absolutely peach of a lobe over the defense which Messi tucked home. We should frame these last moments with Iniesta in gold. At moments like this, we are in a cocktail of emotions. Being happy to witness such greatness in action and then grief of realizing that he will be gone next season.

Second half saw a motivated Villareal as they pushed forward and pressured us. We quite comfortably soaked up the pressure as Villareal found it hard to break our defense and resorted to long shots. It took a lucky deflection for them to beat our defense and Jasper Cillesen, who has been excellent in his first league appearance this season.

In the final 10 minutes we decided to have some fun and took it up a notch. Rakitic made a dazzling run from the right side beating two defenders and layed the ball off into the area as Villareal defense stood like statues, for Dembele to tap in. And in the final minute we saw a glimpse of what we can expect from Ousmane Dembele. A quick counter after a Villareal corner saw Dembele accelerating with the ball easily past two defenders and he capped it off with a brilliant chip over the keeper to make it 5-1. What a night for the youngster. Scoring the first of his many braces for the club. We saw how good he is on the ball. And the improvement in his confidence was evident. He took on players with ease and combined really well with his wing partner Semedo. He is our future.

On we go to the next round. 2 more games to immortality. Keep the momentum and so it, guys. Visca Barca!
