    United deny sale talks
Red Devils insist they are not for sale

Manchester United have again insisted the club is not for sale after denying they were holding talks with a potential interested party.
Reports on Sunday claimed United were in talks over a possible £1.5billion deal to sell the club to Qatar Holding.
Qatar Holding, who bought Harrods last year, is an an indirect subsidiary of Qatar Investment Authority and is run by Sheik Hamad bin Jassem bin Jabr Al Thani, Prime Minister of Qatar.
The reports claimed that United's current owners, the American based Glazer Family, had opened talks with the group but the deal failed to materialise as they were seeking £2billion.
But United have denied the reports, again insisting club is not for sale.
"There has been no approach of any kind to buy the club and one wouldn't be welcome anyway because it is not for sale," a spokesman said.
The Glazer Family bought United in 2005 for £790million.

Shaun Wright-Phillips is close to agreeing a move to Fulham which will see the England winger join on loan before signing on a permanent basis in the summer.

City, who originally wanted a transfer fee for Wright-Phillips this month, have offered Fulham a compromise whereby the Londoners will pay a £4million transfer fee in the summer provided they stay in the Premier League.

Fulham are reluctant to pay City a fee while their top-flight status is in jeopardy but manager Mark Hughes is keen to be reunited with the 29-year-old, who he worked with while boss at Eastlands.
Hughes is also keen to sign former Fulham defender Paul Konchesky and return him to the club after his unhappy six-month spell at Liverpool and the move will happen if Fulham can offload Mexican left-back Carlos Salcido. After a bright start to his Craven Cottage career, Salcido has lost his place to Chris Baird.

The Fulham manager is also looking to add a striker after missing out on Roque Santa Cruz. Should Konchesky leave Anfield, Liverpool's interim manager Kenny Dalglish will take Aston Villa defender Stephen Warnock on loan for the rest of the season.
Warnock was part of England's squad at last year's World Cup but has been frozen out at Villa Park by Gerard Houllier and fancies a return to Liverpool, where he started his career. City will also let goalkeeper Shay Given go out on loan provided they have the facility to recall him should first choice Joe Hart get injured. Given is keen to play regular first-team football but his £90,000-a-week wages are making it hard for other clubs to take him on.

The father of Southampton's in-demand teenager Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has confirmed that Arsenal are the "ideal choice" for his son, with reports suggesting a deal could be agreed imminently. It is reported that Arsenal will pay an initial £7 million for Oxlade-Chamberlain, who could return to Southampton on loan for the remainder of the season. Wenger has confirmed that he hopes to finalise a deal in January.

Chelsea Close To €25.1 Million Signing Of Benfica Defender David Luiz - Report

    Jan 24, 2011 3:28:00 PM

    11

The move is likely to cost the Premier League champions a fee of £21.5 million (€25.1m) if the Blues are given the go-ahead with a work permit, the application for which will be heard on Wednesday.

Luiz, 23, was omitted from the Benfica side that beat Nacional 4-2 on Saturday night, and will travel to London for a medical.

All being well, he could be confirmed as a Chelsea player tomorrow subject to the work permit being granted.

Furthermore, it is believed that Chelsea will offer to loan the Portuguese side one or two of their young players as a makeweight in the deal, with Dutch centre-back Jeffrey Bruma mooted.

Luiz has made 126 appearances in five seasons at the Stadio De Luz, scoring six goals.
