Barcelona started their Journey in Style..

    Racing Santander 0 - 3 Barcelona

    3' Lionel Messi
    33' Andres Iniesta
    62' David Villa

    Three-sy does it for Barca

David Villa marked his league debut for Barcelona with a goal as Pep Guardiola's side began the defence of their Primera Division title with a 3-0 win at Racing Santander.

Lionel Messi opened the scoring with a fine goal after just three minutes and Andres Iniesta added an even better second later in the half as the Spanish champions quickly took control at El Sardinero.
Racing striker Mohamed Tchite saw his penalty saved by Barca keeper Victor Valdes moments later and Villa had an effort ruled out for offside before the break.
But the Spain striker struck again after 62 minutes with a pinpoint header to score his first goal in Barca colours and ensure an ideal start to the league campaign for the Catalans.
Barca were starting life without striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who was left out of the squad by Guardiola and has since brought his unhappy time at the Nou Camp to an end by sealing a move to AC Milan.
In the Swede's absence, Villa began in the centre forward role, with Iniesta on the left and Messi on the right.
It looked like a devastating attacking trio and so it proved as the three players scored all of Barca's goals.
Messi, fresh from his brilliant hat-trick in last weekend's Supercopa success over Sevilla, bagged his fourth of the season in only the club's third competitive match as he latched on to Iniesta's pass and coolly clipped the ball over Tono.
The Racing keeper was alert to deny Villa after 19 minutes and Messi dallied later on when it looked as if he would snatch a second.
But a brilliant Iniesta strike saw the Catalans double their advantage after 33 minutes.
Spain's World Cup hero struck the ball into the back of the net with a superb volley from the edge of the box after Tono had punched clear.
It was a special moment for Barca, but moments later Racing were given the chance to close the deficit to a single goal after the referee awarded what looked a contentious penalty following a clash between Maxwell and Francis in the area.
Tchite stepped up, but his effort was brilliantly saved by Valdes, who dived low to his right to keep out the spot-kick.
Villa then saw an effort correctly ruled out for offside at the end of the half, but there was nothing wrong with his header after 62 minutes.
The former Valencia striker guided home Dani Alves' curling cross with a perfectly-placed header to put the game beyond Racing's reach and ensure a happy start to the season for Pep Guardiola's side.
The only negative for Barcelona was an injury to Xavi, who left proceedings at half-time with an Achilles problem and was replaced by fellow World Cup winner Pedro. The substitution was said to be precautionary, however, and the midfielder is expected to be fit for Barca's clash at home to Hercules in two weeks' time.
