Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak has praised Google’s smartphone operating system Android and has predicted that it will soon surpass the iPhone operating system in both quantity and quality.
The comments by the man who invented the first Mac computer came as Android-powered phones are fast catching up with Apple’s iPhones in market share.
“The Apple phone has very few weaknesses,” Wozniak told Netherlands newspaper De Telegraaf in an interview posted on Thursday.
“When it comes to quality, the iPhone is leading.” But he conceded that “Android phones have more features” and deliver more buying options for those who don’t want to be limited to a single device.
In addition, Mr. Wozniak told the publication that eventually the quality of Android will match Apple’s operating system and much like Windows in the desktop space, Google’s mobile platform will become the “dominant” option in the mobile market.

With a special Corning Gorilla Glass Display that acts as a shield against the accidental water spills and probably even an unexpected rain shower, Moto's made the DEFY water-resistant. This means it might not hold up well in a 10 feet drop in the pool but it's bound to save you from less extreme water-disasters. So you can still take a cute picture while getting drenched in the rain with your sweetheart on the 5-meg camera. The phone also comes with CrystalTalk PLUS, which works on a dual microphone voice amplification technology and filters background noise. Apart from being water-resistant despite having a touch screen, the phone is scratch-resistant and dust-proof as well or as Motorola terms it, almost ‘Lifeproof'.

Apple had surpassed BlackBerry maker Research In Motion (RIM) and other companies, emerging as the fourth largest vendor on the global mobile phone market in the third quarter of 2010, research firm IDC said in a report released on Friday.
Nokia maintained the top spot in the quarter with the shipments of more than 110 million devices, followed by Samsung and LG Electronics. RIM slipped to number five, one place down compared with the previous quarter.
According to IDC, Apple shipped 14.1 million iPhones in the quarter while RIM sold 12.4 million units of Blackberry.
The fact that Apple joined RIM to become the second smartphone - only vendor in the top five ranking further showed the growing popularity of smartphones, IDC analysts said.
“The entrance of Apple to the top 5 vendor ranking underscores the increased importance of smartphones to the overall market. Moreover, the mobile phone makers that are delivering popular smartphone models are among the fastest growing firms,” Kevin Restivo, a senior research analyst with IDC, said in a statement.
Overall, vendors shipped 340.5 million units of mobile phones worldwide in the third quarter, an increase of 14.6 percent compared with the same period a year ago.
Among the top five vendors, Apple and RIM posted the highest growth rates in the quarter with Apple leading the way as it’s iPhone shipments surged 90.5 percent year-on-year.
Apple’s record shipment performance can be attributed to the introduction of the iPhone 4 in 17 new countries and regions in the third quarter, IDC noted in the report.
Looking forward, IDC analysts predicted that worldwide mobile phone market will be driven largely by smartphone growth to the end of 2014.
“The smartphone is becoming the focal point of the personal communications experience,” said Restivo. “As a result, new market growth will be increasingly generated by smartphones.” Restivo added.

pple will release the long-awaited iOS 4.2 update later today. It will be compatible with iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch, where the iPad is the highest beneficiary of all, reloaded with Multitasking, Folders, Game Center, AirPrint and AirPlay.
Surely the iPad users were the most eager to get their hands on the iOS 4.2. This version will finally restore the balance between the pocket devices and the tablets. Besides the already mentioned features, the iPad is also getting everything that iOS has already brought on the iPhone/iPod Touch.

The iOS 4.2 brings AirPlay, AirPrint and a free version of Find My iDevice to all three Apple gadgets.
AirPlay allows direct streaming to Apple TV, while AirPrint is capable to print anything on your iDevice to the supported printers. Find My iPhone/iPod/iPad is now working without MobileMe subscription (which means free) on iOS 4.2 and won't work for iPhone 3G/3GS and earlier iPod Touches.
Let's hope the alarm bug is also fixed within the new firmware update.
iOS 4.2 is compatible with every iPad, iPhone 4/3GS/3G and iPod Touch (2, 3 and 4th generation). The update will become available later today.
