OnePlus to bring Caller ID, Smart SMS and more to OxygenOS for Indian users

Chinese smartphone maker OnePlus has announced that it will be bringing a few India-specific features to OxygenOS. These India-specific features will be made available to OnePlus 6 and 6T users, and to the OnePlus 7 and OnePlus 7 Pro users as well.
OnePlus Product Lead Szymon Kopec had announced that his company would be adding some India-specific features to OxygenOS during the OS deep-dive in Goa earlier this month where the new features were revealed. However, at the time, he did not go into too many details.
OnePlus has further revealed that it would be testing these features first in the Open Beta releases for the OnePlus 6 and the OnePlus 6T. And they should be rolled out to all users once the testing phase is over.

    OxygenOS India-specific features detailed

OnePlus has revealed details about five India-specific features that will be added to OxygenOS, namely ? Caller Identification, Smart SMS, Work-Life Balance, Cricket Scores and OnePlus Roaming.

    Caller Identification
OnePlus has already implemented a basic Caller Identification functionality in the Dialler app in the recent Open Beta releases for the OnePlus 6 and 6T. This feature currently identifies very few numbers, but OnePlus could improve it with the upcoming updates. Once it rolls out, users should be able to tag calls from unknown numbers and/or correct the information of numbers that have been identified already.
Think of it as something like Truecaller built-in to your phone.

    Smart SMS
With Smart SMS, OnePlus is taking a leaf out of Xiaomi?s playbook to make service messages a lot more helpful. The primary task here is identifying the type of service message and presenting it in an appropriate manner using the information in the message.

While the Messages app already categorises messages as Transactional or Notifications based on the sender?s details, it will neatly present the content inside identified messages in the form of visual cards. This should make it easier for you to quickly understand what the message is about.
This feature is much like Microsoft?s SMS Organiser app, but again, this one is built into your device.

    Work-Life Balance
As the name says, Work-Life Balance will help you to balance your work and leisure timings. Basically, you won?t be disturbed by your personal life events when the Work profile is enabled, and vice-versa.
The Work-Life Balance feature will let you set your work and leisure timings, location and network connections. You will be able to select which apps will be allowed in either of the two profiles. Once set, notifications will be blocked from apps which aren?t selected in a particular profile.

You will also be able to see the amount of time you?ve spent in either of the two profiles using a bar chart.

    Cricket Scores
Cricket is almost a religion in India, and OnePlus gets it. The company has revealed that it will be adding the ability to check cricket scores directly from the Shelf. For this, OnePlus has tied up with ESPNCricinfo which will provide the scores related data.

    OnePlus Roaming
OnePlus Roaming lets you purchase data packs for when you travel abroad and don?t want to purchase a local SIM. It is already available in existing OxygenOS Open Betas on the OnePlus 6 and 6T.

OnePlus Roaming will be integrated into the ?Wi-Fi & Internet? category in the Settings app.

Asus Issues Response After Delhi HC Interim Order Halts Sales of ZenFone Phones in India

The Taiwanese tech giant has today released an official statement saying that the supply and after-sale service and technical support for its products remain unchanged.

The Taiwanese tech giant has today released an official statement saying that the supply and after-sale service and technical support for its products remain unchanged.

Just yesterday we reported that the Delhi High Court had issued an interim injunction on Asus Technologies Pvt Ltd., which prevented the company from selling, offering and advertising any device bearing Zen, ZenFone and any other name related to these terms.
The Taiwanese tech giant has today released an official statement saying that the supply and after-sale service and technical support for its products remain unchanged.
“The Asus legal team is currently working with the Delhi High Court in India to resolve the Zen Mobiles and ZenFone trademark lawsuit. The supply of Asus smartphones, notebooks and other products, as well as technical support and after-sales service for all Asus products remain unchanged for all consumers.”
The court ruling came into effect on May 29, and remains effective for eight weeks until July 24. The update comes under grounds of a copyright infringement appeal made by Telecare Network, which claimed that Asus had infringed upon the former's trademarked brands Zen and Zenmobile. Telecare says that it has been the registered proprietor and beneficiary of the Zen and Zenmobile trademarks under the Trade Marks Act, 1999, and has been using the brands continuously for selling feature phones, smartphones, tablets and related accessories, since 2008.
Asus argued that its usage of the 'Zen' mark is in line with its chief execute Jonney Shih's philosophical belief, and as such, is a generic term in regards to the followers of Buddhism. It also supplied proof of multiple other brands using various iterations of the 'Zen' trademark, and emphasised that there was no scope of confusion as the name 'Zenfone' was always firmly associated with the Asus brand.
However, the Court's ruling was based on the fact that Asus had only filed for its trademark in 2014, prior to which Telecare Network was already using the trademark 'Zenmobile' -- deemed as a very similar variation of the Zenfone brand. Furthermore, the court stated that Asus' argument of the 'Zen' word being generic in religious principles does not qualify on ground of smartphones, where it can be referred to as a specific entity.

Apple will launch iPhone 11 on Sept. 10 in Cupertino

Get ready for the iPhone 11 on Sept. 10.

Apple sent invitations to the media on Thursday for its next big product launch. It plans to introduce its newest devices and services at 10 a.m. PT at the Steve Jobs Theater in Cupertino, California.

The iPhone may be a tougher sell this year. Apple isn't expected to change the basic design of the device, making it the first time the iPhone's had the same look for three years in a row. At the same time, rivals are introducing phones with flexible screens and with 5G -- two innovations not found in Apple devices. Many people are looking toward 2020 for big iPhone changes.
