Nokia MWC 2018 expected launches







The Nokia 1 (seen above) is expected to be amongst the first batch of Android Oreo (Go edition) – aka Android Go – smartphones. The budget smartphone has been leaked on multiple occasions, and is expected to sport an HD (720x1280 pixels) IPS display along with 1GB of RAM and 8GB of inbuilt storage. The entry-level smartphone was recently leaked by prolific tipster Evan Blass (aka @evleaks), revealing its design from in a press render.






The Nokia 7 Plus on the other hand is said to be sport a 6-inch full-HD+, 18:9 display, apart from a dual rear camera setup (12-megapixel + 13-megapixel sensors), 4GB of RAM, and 64GB of inbuilt storage. Unlike the Nokia 1, which is said to run Android 8.1 Oreo (Go edition), the Nokia 7 Plus is expected to be an Android One smartphone.











The Nokia 6 (201 is powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 630 SoC, coupled with 4GB of LPDDR4 RAM. HMD Global has provided a 16-megapixel rear camera sensor on the Nokia 6 (201 and an 8-megapixel camera front camera. It also supports the Nokia Dual-Sight technology letting users capture simultaneous shots from the rear and front camera sensors to create a ‘Bothie’


The Nokia 3310 4G on the other hand differs from the original by actually running a smartphone OS – YunOS, which is a forked version of Android. It sports a 2.4-inch QVGA (240x320 pixels) colour display. 256MB of RAM, 512MB of onboard storage that is expandable via microSD card (up to 64GB), 2-megapixel rear camera sensor with LED flash, and a 1200mAh battery, apart from 4G VoLTE connectivity.

Nokia 8 Sirocco with 5.5-inch 18:9 display and Snapdragon 835 launched


HMD Global has had a busy day, with the company unveiling a bunch of phones at its pre-MWC press conference. The company announced the Nokia 1, new Nokia 6 (201, Nokia 7 Plus as well as the Nokia 8110 feature phone. In addition, the brand has unveiled an upgrade to its current flagship, the Nokia 8 (review), in the form of the Nokia 8 Sirocco.

Design-wise, the Nokia 8 Sirocco features a bezel-less all-glass design and features dual-curved edges on the front, similar to what we’ve seen on flagship smartphones from Samsung. Owing to its sleek bezels on the top and the bottom of the display, the fingerprint sensor has been repositioned towards the back of the device, below the smartphone’s camera module. The device will also get face unlock via an OTA update in Q2 2018. Unlike its predecessor, the Nokia 8 Sirocco doesn’t feature a headphone jack, albeit comes with IP67 certification as well as support for wireless charging. For display, the smartphone gets a 5.5-inch QHD pOLED display which boasts an aspect ratio of 18:9.

Much like its predecessor, the Nokia 8 Sirocco is also powered by the Snapdragon 835 octa-core processor, however, the handset now ships with 6GB of RAM as opposed to 4GB on the Nokia 8. For storage, the Nokia 8 Sirocco offers users 128GB of memory.
In the camera department, the Nokia 8 features a pair of 12MP and 13MP sensors with f/1.7 and f/2.4 aperture respectively. The primary 12MP sensor on the smartphone is a wide-angle sensor whereas the assisting 13MP shooter is a telephoto sensor. For selfies, the Nokia 8 Sirocco ships with a 5MP front-facing camera which also has a wide-angle 84-degree lens.


The Nokia 8 Sirocco is fueled by a 3,260mAh battery and as we mentioned previously, the smartphone is compliant with Qi wireless charging standards as well. The handset boots Android Oreo from the get-go and part of Google’s Android One programme.
As far as the pricing is concerned, the Nokia 8 Sirocco carries a price tag of €749 (~Rs 59,589). The device will go on sale in India in April or May of this year.

Nokia 1 with Android Oreo (Go edition) unveiled



At the ongoing MWC 2018, HMD Global has introduced its first Android Oreo (Go edition) smartphone called the Nokia 1. As expected, the phone comes with entry-level affordable specifications. The launch comes soon after Google introduced the light-weight Android Oreo (Go edition) in December last year for budget offerings low on RAM and storage

Talking about the specs, the Nokia 1 offers a 4.5-inch FWVGA display. Powering the phone is a 1.1GHz quad-core MediaTek MT6737M processor, aided by 1GB of RAM. The storage capacity on board is 8GB, which can be further increased by up to 128GB by inserting a microSD card. The camera department includes a 5MP rear snapper and a 2MP front shooter. The connectivity options include 4G LTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and A-GPS. A 2,150mAh battery completes the list of the specs.
The Nokia 1 will be available in warm red and dark blue hues. The phone will go on sale globally for an affordable price of $85 (~Rs 5,500). It will be available in India in April/May this year. You will also be able to dress up the Nokia 1 with the brand’s new Xpress polycarbonate covers, which will be sold separately.

Nokia 7 plus with 6-inch 18:9 display and Snapdragon 660 announced

The Nokia 7 Plus from HMD Global has been much talked about amidst a number of leaks and speculations. Today, the brand took to stage at its pre-MWC event to go ahead and finally launch the handset globally. Notably, the device comes with a nearly bezel-less 18:9 display and is also part of the Android One program.

The Nokia 7 Plus comes with a unibody design and features dual-tone colour schemes. The unibody chassis of the handset has been crafted from a mix of metal and ceramic, with the latter being used in the rear-mounted fingerprint scanner as well. The device will also get a face unlock feature via an OTA update in Q2 of this year. The 6-inch full HD+ display come with a layer of Corning Gorilla Glass on top for protection and has minimal bezels on all four sides. In the performance department, the device gets a Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 processor, aided by an Adreno 512 GPU. The processor has been mated to 4GB RAM and 64GB storage, which can be further expanded using the microSD card slot.

Moving on to the imaging department, the Nokia 7 Plus flaunts a dual camera module on the rear panel comprising of a 12MP + 13MP sensor with Zeiss Optics and 2X optical zoom. The camera on the handset flaunts features like Nokia’s Bothie mode and 2X optical zoom. For selfies and video calling, users get a 16-megapixel shooter with Zeiss optics. The handset is powered by a 3,800mAh battery with fast charging support and runs Android Oreo out of the box. The connectivity features include 4G LTE, USB Type-C, dual-SIM slots, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and A-GPS.

HMD Global is offering the Nokia 7 Plus in two hues – Black Copper and White Copper. The phone has been launched with a price tag of €399 (~Rs 31,750) and will go on sale in India in April/May this year.

New Nokia 6 with face unlock and wireless charging goes official

At its pre-MWC event held tonight, HMD Global launched a number of smartphones including new 8110 4G, Nokia 1, New Nokia 6, Nokia 7 Plus and Nokia 8 Sirocco. Of these, the New Nokia 6 is the same Nokia 6 (201, which was launched in China earlier this year albeit with a couple of nifty additions. Nokia has added wireless charging and Face Unlock in the new variant of the handset.

Coming to the spec sheet of the handset, the New Nokia 6 sports a 5.5-inch full HD display. The all-metal handset features a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner, which is a detour from the original Nokia 6 launched last year. In the performance department, the handset is powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 630 processor. HMD Global is offering the handset with 3GB RAM and 32GB of expandable storage. Out of the box, the device runs Android Oreo and being a part of Android One branding, is expected to receive regular security updates and future updates for the next two years

Moving on to the imaging department, the device gets a 16-megapixel shooter accompanied by an LED flash on the rear panel. As for the selfies and video calling, there is an 8-megapixel secondary shooter on the front. Both cameras on the smartphone feature an aperture of f/2.0. In the connectivity department, the device comes with 4G LTE, USB Type-C, dual-SIM slots, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and A-GPS. A 3,000mAh battery under the rear panel keeps the light on throughout the day for the handset.

HMD Global is offering the New Nokia 6 in three hues – Black and White. The handset will be made available to consumers in April 2018 and will come with a starting price tag of €279 (~Rs 21,000).

Nokia 8110 (4G) slider feature phone unveiled

HMD Global took us down memory lane at MWC last year with its Nokia 3310 reboot, and it seems like the company is following the same recipe this year again. At its pre-MWC event, it announced the 4G variant of its iconic Nokia 8110 (the cool slider phone that was famously used in Hollywood blockbuster The Matrix).

The banana shaped Nokia 8110 (4G) comes in a candy bar form and sports a 2.4-inch curved QVGA display. It runs Smart Feature OS based on KaiOS and is powered by the Qualcomm 205 Mobile Platform coupled with 512MB of RAM. The handset comes with 4GB of built-in storage and the connectivity options include 4G, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.1, GPS/AGPS, 3.5mm audio jack, and micro-USB 2.0.

The handset houses a 1,500mAh battery and sports a 2-megapixel rear camera. Notably, the new Nokia 8110 comes with handful of apps including Google Assistant, Search, Google Maps, Google Search, Twitter, and Facebook. Apart from the Banana Yellow colour, the handset will also be made available in Black.

The Nokia 8110 (4G) measures 133.45 x 49.3 x 14.9mm and weighs 117 grams. The handset comes with a polycarbonate body.

The reboot of Nokia 8810 has been priced at €79 (roughly Rs 6,300). It will go on sale in India in the second half of this year.

Samsung Galaxy S9 & Galaxy S9+ Are Now Official – Specs, Features, Price, Availability



At the Galaxy Unpacked event in Barcelona, Samsung has officially unveiled the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ smartphones. While several leaks have already revealed most of the key details, now we got the final confirmation along with pricing and availability information. On the design front, the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ look almost similar to the last year’s Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+. However, the company acknowledged the misplacement of the fingerprint sensor on the Galaxy S8 devices and now moved it to the bottom of the rear camera on the new Galaxy S9 devices.
Even the bottom chin on these new flagship smartphones is slightly smaller in size when compared to their predecessors. We got the dual curved glass on either side of the Aluminum frame. While the Galaxy S9 comes with a 5.8-inch Super AMOLED display, the Galaxy S9+ sports a slightly bigger 6.2-inch Super AMOLED display. Both the devices sport Infinity display with QuadHD+ resolution, Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection, 18.5:9 aspect ratio, and HDR support. Samsung is also using the same Corning Gorilla Glass 5 on the rear of the Galaxy S9 devices.
Under the hood, the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ will come powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor coupled with Adreno 630 GPU. The Snapdragon-powered Galaxy S9 devices will be limited to the U.S and China, and rest of the world will only get the Exynos 9810 powered variants. While the Galaxy S9 comes with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage, the Galaxy S9+ offers 6GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. Both these devices come with hybrid SIM card slot for further expanding the storage up to 400GB.
The devices will be running on the latest Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box with the all-new Samsung Experience UI laid on top. Talking about the cameras, the Galaxy S9 comes only with a 12MP single camera. On the other hand, the Galaxy S9+ sports 12MP dual rear (regular + telephoto lens) cameras with dual OIS. The primary 12MP rear camera on both the devices will support all-new variable aperture mode where the user can choose between the f/1.5 or f/2.4 aperture. The devices will also support 4K video recording and 720p super slow motion at 960 fps.





With the Galaxy S9, Samsung is introducing new AR Emoji feature, which adds Animoji-like animations to the Bitmoji’s custom stickers. The user can create the 3D map of their face using the front-facing camera for animated emojis. These emojis can also be shared as GIFs on other messaging apps like WhatsApp and Messenger. The users also get the desktop experience with their Galaxy S9 devices by connecting it to the Samsung Dex Pad. Both the devices are also water and dust resistant, thanks to the IP68 certification.
There are also stereo speakers on the top and bottom tuned by AKG. On the battery front, the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ are backed by 3,000mAh and 3,500mAh batteries respectively. Both the devices will be available for pre-orders starting Match 2nd in the U.S and the worldwide sales will begin from March 12th. Talking about the pricing, the Galaxy S9 will be costing $720, whereas the Galaxy S9+ with better configuration costs $840. The devices will be available in Lilac Blue, Midnight Black, and Coral Blue
