    Default IPL 2011-Season 4

    IPL 2011 – IPL season 4

IPL 2011 is eagerly expected as IPL 2010 was a huge hit. IPL 3 had 8 teams playing against each other. It was initially thought that IPL 4 would have 10 teams competing .But now only 8 teams would play. Kochi team’s fate hangs in balance. This edition is going to be much different from other editions as we are going to miss Lalit Modi . Lalit Modi is known for his tweets causing trouble to himself as well as Shashi Tharoor.
Indian Premier League is already becoming so hot and powerful. Many politicians , Businessmen are trying to prove their mettle in Indian cricket Board. Politicians cutting across party lines are mad about Indian Premier League involvement. NCP supremo Sharad Pawar is the head in present scenario. Days of Dalmia are long gone. It appears difficult for a comeback of Dalmia or AC muthiah.
The latest development in this season is that The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to give 10% of foreign players’ fee to the respective national boards. However the players are in protest over this issue.

    IPL 2011 Schedule

IPL Season 4 is going to have 10 teams , 74 matches and 45 days of action. IPL 2011 schedule can be checked here as when its announced. However it is confirmed that the tournament will begin on April 09.

    IPL 2011 Auctions

Each team can have a squad of at most 30 players with a maximum of US$9 million to spend on purchasing players. Due to the addition of two new teams, all eight existing teams are disbanded. Each of teams may retain up to four players from the 2010 season, with at most three Indians. Choosing to retain players would subject to a reduction in their salary cap, reducing the amount they may spend on other players. All other players are added to the auction. The player auction is scheduled for January 8 and 9 2011 in Mumbai after being postponed on multiple occasions due to issues with the teams.
The catchment areas of the eight existing teams were changed to account for the two new teams. Catchment areas are nominated areas to help each side select their local players. Each team must select four players from their area.
Kolkata Knight Riders will become the first franchise to sign a Pakistani (Mohammad Irfan) player since the inaugural season. Pakistani cricketers have not participated since due to a diplomatic crisis between Pakistan and India. The contract is awaiting approval by the BCCI.

Total salary cap per team- Rs 45 crore – 9 million USD

Tendulkar seeks greater clarity on endorsements in IPL IV

While the BCCI’s ambush marketing war with the ICC is now a thing of the past, Sachin Tendulkar has approached the board asking for clarity on his personal sponsorship commitments clashing with those of his IPL team Mumbai Indians.

In a letter to the board, Tendulkar has asked for greater accuracy on how to deal with sponsorship conflicts, and sought to learn if his Mumbai Indians commitments “extend during the period of the entire term (association with the team), or only during the (IPL) season”.

    Existing agreements first

Tendulkar specified that his existing commitments should take precedence — they being prior in time. “Further, clarity needs to be provided in the event of any conflict between the existing agreements and the obligations herein,” Tendulkar has written.

In the past, the big-ticket players have ended up making excessive public appearances in order to honour their promotional activities during the tournament.

According to the previous IPL contract, every player had to make a minimum of 10 appearances.

This in addition to the draining IPL schedule they have to cope with. Lately, players have been hesitant to sign sponsorship clauses without knowing what they entail.

The concern probably stems from the IPL franchises’ associate sponsors who manage to have the likes of Tendulkar, MS Dhoni and Virender Sehwag endorse their products at fairly economical rates.

Consequently many of these firms use the services of the players without having to part with a greater share of the pie.

It was held also that Tendulkar was devaluing his brand by associating himself with organisations that did not befit his stature.
