where package_file is the name of the Google Earth software package file.
while doing so, the system may ask you the super user password.. enter it..

@Aslan: You can use debi(gdebi) to resolve dependencies. but, many times, it fails, especially when apt repositories are not configured or enabled.
if you have net connection configured, use Ubuntu's repositories to install Google earth or any other applications. in Linux, repositories carry most softwares needed. so no need to manually install.
regarding google earth, if you have a 64-bit ubuntu, it will be tough to install manually. because, 32-bit libraries are needed.
