paan singh tomar is a biopic or a semi biopic of an indian soldier and an athlete (a national champion in steeplechase) who turns into a dacoit.. rebel (in his own words.) ., I have never heard abt paan singh so im not sure how much fiction and how much reality is in this movie..

the movie starts off well with the title credits itself, te audience kinda feel they are in for something worth and the team of paan singh didnt disappoint.

Positives

Novelty of an unsung hero's biopic, story of paan singh definitely have a movie written all over, infact an interesting one.
nice screenplay and smart dialogues.
cinematography and background score.
Actors were excellent., mahi gill who plays paan singhs wife was really nice, credible actress.
Irfan as paan singh has given a knockout performance, it demanded unlimited range of motion and emotions (read physical flexibilty and range of emotions/acting)
The director- man he has done a truely wonderful job, amazing craft, well etched sequences/ scenes, perfect pace for a biopic.

the movie has lot of positives such as the emotions work really well, whenever paan singh starts running u feel like clapping/cheering for him., whenever he is in a dilemma u feel bad, whenever there is a joyous scenes u feel laughing and sometimes cud bring moist in ur eyes which is very rare in a cinema now a days.
there is blamegame but whenver they have tried to pinpoint some they have used wit as a source and that works well(smart dialogue writing).

Negative

the problem they had is associating two extremes, the vulnerable/straight forward paan singh and the dacoit paan , tried to compromise and that made it a bit confusing for the audience like what and why ?
paan want to defend himself against his own cousin, thats okay but why a dacoit ? It is not clearly told which shud/wud have been told more clearly., probably they want to make him less monster and more likable to the audience but its a sham and u can feel some sort of voidness in the characterisation hence..

anyway its not big deal because its a well crafted well acted , sincerely told movie.

Verdict - is it watchable .. ? say Yes.! (now thats paan singh style, watch te movie u will know) :)
