    CAST

Robert Downey, Jr. as Tony Stark / Iron Man

A billionaire industrialist who seeks to pacify the world with a mechanical suit of armor of his own invention. Downey, Jr. was cast as part of his four-picture deal with Marvel Studios, which includes Iron Man 2 and The Avengers.

Chris Evans as Steve Rogers / Captain America:

A World War II veteran who was enhanced to the peak of human perfection by an experimental serum. Evans was cast as part of a deal to star in three Marvel films, in addition to The Avengers.About the character's dual presence in both World War II and the modern era, Evans stated, "In The Avengers, they start to explore this. He's a fish out of water, a man not in his time, and he's just coming to terms with the way the world is now and how it's changed since the '40s." Regarding the dynamic between Captain America and Tony Stark, Evans remarked, "I think there's certainly a dichotomy — this kind of friction between myself and Tony Stark, they're polar opposites. One guy is flash and spotlight and smooth, and the other guy is selfless and in the shadows and kind of quiet and they have to get along. They explore that, and it's pretty fun".

    Chris Hemsworth as Thor:

The Asgardian god of thunder. Hemsworth was cast as part of a multiple movie deal.[7] He had previously worked with Joss Whedon on The Cabin in the Woods.[8] Hemsworth stated that he was able to maintain the strength he built up for Thor by increasing his food intake, consisting of a number of chicken breasts, fish, steak and eggs a day. When asked exactly how much, Hemsworth joked, "My body weight in protein pretty much!"[9]

Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury:

The director of the super-spy agency S.H.I.E.L.D., Jackson was brought to the project with a deal containing an option to play the character in up to nine Marvel films.[11]

    Scarlett Johansson as Natasha Romanoff:

A highly trained spy working for S.H.I.E.L.D.[12] Whedon confirmed that Johansson's Romanoff would be the only female member of the Avengers, but not the only female character in the film.[13]

Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner / Hulk:

A genius scientist who, because of exposure to gamma radiation, transforms into a monster when enraged or excited. Ruffalo was cast after negotiations between Marvel and Edward Norton broke down.[16] About replacing Edward Norton, Ruffalo stated, "I'm a friend of Ed's, and yeah, that wasn't a great way for all that to go down. But the way I see it is that Ed has bequeathed this part to me. I look at it as my generation's Hamlet". About the character he stated, "He's a guy struggling with two sides of himself—the dark and the light—and everything he does in his life is filtered through issues of control. I grew up on the Bill Bixby TV series, which I thought was a really nuanced and real human way to look at The Hulk. I like that the part has those qualities".[17] Regarding the Hulk's place on the team Ruffalo stated, "He's like the teammate none of them are sure they want on their team. He's a loose cannon. It's like, 'Just throw a grenade in the middle of the group and let's hope it turns out well"![18] Ruffalo also told New York magazine that unlike previous incarnations he will actually play the Hulk, "I'm really excited. No one's ever played the Hulk exactly, they've always done CGI. They're going to do the Avatar stop-action, stop-motion capture. So I'll actually play the Hulk. That'll be fun".[19] About his preparation for the role Ruffalo joked, "I've lost 15 pounds and I've put another five on of just strapping, pure USDA beef... They want me mean and lean, but they don't want me big and buff"

    Tom Hiddleston as Loki:

    [bIMG]http://www.comicbookmovie.com/images/uploads/lokisidebyside.jpg[/bIMG]

The Asgardian god of mischief.[7] In regards to his character's evolution from the film Thor, Hiddleston stated that "I think the Loki we see in The Avengers is further advanced. You have to ask yourself the question: how pleasant an experience is it disappearing into a wormhole that has been created by some kind of super nuclear explosion of his own making? So I think by the time Loki shows up in The Avengers he's seen a few things."

    Synopsis

Marvel Studios presents “Marvel’s The Avengers”—the Super Hero team up of a lifetime, featuring iconic Marvel Super Heroes Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk, Thor, Captain America, Hawkeye and Black Widow. When an unexpected enemy emerges that threatens global safety and security, Nick Fury, Director of the international peacekeeping agency known as S.H.I.E.L.D., finds himself in need of a team to pull the world back from the brink of disaster. Spanning the globe, a daring recruitment effort begins.

Marvel Sets 'Thor' Sequel for Summer 2013 Release with 'Iron Man 3'

Back in April we heard the not-so-surprising news that sequels were already in the works for both Captain America: The First Avenger (check out the newest trailer right here) and Thor. Now Deadline has learned that today Marvel and Disney are announcing their full commitment to a sequel for the god of thunder with Chris Hemsworth putting on the helmet and cape again for a theatrical release sometime in the summer of 2013. Since Marvel and Disney have already set Iron Man 3 for release on May 3rd, 2013, so I'd expect Thor 2 to hit sometime in June or July afterwards. Actually, we might even have an exact date later today.
However, with this announcement comes the news that Kenneth Branagh will not be returning to direct the sequel. Apparently there's no hard feelings between the studio and direct as his lack of involvement is said to be "mutual and amicable" and he'll still probably end up being a producer on the sequel anyway. Though he may not have the box office success to back it up, and his films haven't exactly been amazing, I think Scott Stewart, the director of Priest and Legion, has some great potential to do something with the Thor franchise. The weakest part of Stewart's films has been the script, but his direction, especially in the action department, has been pretty great. It'll also be interesting to see how The Avengers affects the story in the Thor sequel, if it does at all. Either way, get ready to feel the thunder again in the summer of 2013.
So with Branagh not returning for the next one, who do you think should direct Thor 2 instead?

Marvel Secretly Bringing 'Avengers' to Comic-Con with SHIELD Viral

    July 5, 2011
    by Alex Billington
Despite claims that The Avengers was not going to show up Comic-Con this year, at least not with a Hall H presentation, word from inside Disney/Marvel is that there is actually going to be a presence - just unlike anything we've seen. An inside source has provided us with early details, and as a big fan of viral marketing, I couldn't resist sharing some of them (the rest will remain a secret until Comic-Con). The main focus will be S.H.I.E.L.D., similar to the badges at WonderCon, and they will have actual set pieces from the movie placed on the showfloor as part of a faux-security and recruiting station for S.H.I.E.L.D. - but there's more!
As was teased with WonderCon, S.H.I.E.L.D. is becoming the main focus of Marvel's viral marketing efforts at comic book conventions, and in San Diego this year they're going all out. More vehicles (sponsored again by Acura, but of course) will be scattered throughout, along with more S.H.I.E.L.D. personnel. We've also heard that the massive Helicarrier bridge is a very important set piece in the actual movie, and might be the centerpiece for Marvel's booth this year, just like Odin's giant throne was the centerpiece last year (but that's not 100% confirmed and won't be until someone gets photos from the showfloor). Oh and apparently there will be footage showing on screens at the booth. But we're not exactly sure what - likely the teaser.
We also heard that some of the cast, including Chris Evans (Cap), Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Robert Downey Jr. (Iron Man), Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow), Jeremy Renner (Hawkeye) and Mark Ruffalo (Hulk), might show up for signings at Marvel's booth. Of course, with any actor, their availability changes in an instant (especially considering they're all still shooting Avengers) and I'm sure we'll hear more closer to Comic-Con. That said, this does make sense, as Captain America comes out the same Friday, July 22nd, as Comic-Con. Maybe they're planning to launch that secret teaser trailer that night (starting Thursday at midnight shows) and run it on the showfloor throughout the weekend, with signings and more.
I attempted to confirm this info with Disney, but was told no comment. It looks as if Marvel is shaking things up with Comic-Con and instead of going all out with an exhausting Hall H panel, that only reaches 6,500 people anyway, they're hitting the entire showfloor to market to all 150,000 Comic-Con attendees. Smart idea. It's likely that Marvel will also be hosting big midnight screenings of Captain America: The First Avenger, so keep on the lookout for those as we get nearer. Despite all the discussion about who will or won't be at Comic-Con this year, I'm still excited, as I have a feeling there will still be a lot to cover this year.
Update: After publishing, a few tweets from Entertainment Weekly blogger Anthony Breznican confirmed more: "I'd put money on an 'oh, and one more thing ...' Avengers teaser trailer being shown." That gels with what we've heard. Additionally, fellow movie blogger Erik Davis tweeted (and later removed) about getting this information from a recent set visit for The Avengers, which we were not a part of. Our source was not on the set visit, therefore we can presume most of this is accurate and Davis heard the same but is not allowed to say anything. So there you have it - Marvel is bringing The Avengers to Comic-Con after all!
