John Abraham to play gangster in 'Shoot Out At Wadala' - Indian Express

After playing a cop in Nishikant Kamath's 'Force', John Abraham is stepping into the grey zone with his character of a dreaded gangster of 70s in 'Shoot Out At Wadala'.
The film also marks Sanjay Gupta's return to direction after a gap of four years. The director is known for making action-thrillers like 'Kaante', 'Musafir', 'Zinda', 'Shootout at Lokhandwala'.
Gupta says the dramatic thriller about the gangster Manya Surve will see John go through a major transformation.
“Story of Manya Surve needs a good actor. Also, there is a certain physicality to this character. John will go through a massive transformation,” said Gupta, who last directed John in 'Zinda'.
“John would be seen in a different light altogether as this character would grow from the 60s, establish itself in the 70s and then eventually reach its culmination in the early 80s. John has never played a role like this before.”

'Strings' to compose qawwalli for SHOOTOUT AT WADALA

    October 12, 2011 04:05:03 PM IST
    Glamsham Editorial

Strings, the Pakistan based band has quite a fan following across the border and hence their tunes never fail to put one into a trance. The band is now back to wow their fans in India, and this time round with a full-fledged soundtrack for director Sanjay Gupta upcoming directorial venture SHOOTOUT AT WADALA.

    STRINGS

Incidentally, the band have been guest composers for Gupta in the past, composing a track for ZINDA. Strings last composed and featured in a song for SHOOTOUT AT LOKHANDWALA, which co-incidentally is the prequel to Gupta's upcoming film. Both films are produced by Balaji Motion Pictures and the production house as well as Sanjay Gupta consider the band to be a lucky mascot.

Faisal Kapadia and Bilal Maqsood of 'Strings' too feel that working with the KAANTE director gets the best out of them simply because they have the freedom to weave tracks according to their sensibilities.

Says Faisal, "We've built a very comfortable relationship with Sanjay and Balaji motion pictures. It's very important for musicians to have the freedom to create a track and that's the space we get while working with Sanjay."

The band has now finished recording their first song, which is a qawwali number sung by veteran Pakistani singer Farid Ayaz. Gupta has heard the song and decided to incorporate it in the film even before the movie goes on floors.

Elaborating further on the song, Bilal says, "The movie is set in Mumbai, and knowing a few scenes will be shot around the shrine of Haji Ali, we strongly felt we should pay homage to it by doing a qawwalli. We shared this idea with Gupta and he loved it. The central idea of this qawwalli revolves around asking for forgiveness."

Sanjay Gupta to launch Siddhant Kapoor in Shootout At Wadala

While father Shakti Kapoor is locked away in the Bigg Boss house, son Siddhant is all set to plays a 'sharp shooter' in Sanjay Gupta's forthcoming Shootout At Wadala.

Gupta's film will feature Siddhant in his debut role with a lot of attitude, as he plays a wicked character, a guy who cracks crazy funny jokes. Sources say the audience will see glimpses of his dad in his role.

While Gupta confirms this saying, "According to me, he has a very good individual and independent identity of his own and so he deserves to be on the big screen." The film is scheduled to his the floors later this year with John Abraham playing the role of Manya Surve.

Sanjay Gupta's Shootout At Wadala now has Pakistani connection
    By Joginder Tuteja, August 26, 2011 - 11:11 IST

Recently it was reported that John Abraham would be doing a 'Ganpat' act for Sanjay Gupta in his dramatic thriller Shootout At Wadala. As it turns out, this isn't going to be the only attraction in the film inspired by real incidents that had shocked the nation in the 80s. It will also have a Pakistani connection to it, courtesy country's pop band Strings which would also be composing music for the film. The band members have also reached Indian shores and are jamming it all up in a music studio.

"Yes, both Bilal Maqsood as well as Faisal Kapadia are in town to compose music for Shootout At Wadala. Though off late there has been a lull as far as Pakistani artists composing for an Indian film are concerned, the makers of Shootout At Wadala have taken an exception. They are pretty much living up to the adage of 'music has no boundaries'. In fact Sanjay especially was quite keen at having Strings on board since he has enjoyed a long standing association with them", says a source attached to the film.

This is pretty much apparent from the fact that for Sanjay's last directorial outing Zinda, Strings has composed 'Yeh Hai Meri Kahani' and 'Har Saans'. This isn't all as for his production Shootout At Lokhandwala (which was directed by Apoorva Lakhia), Sanjay had roped in Strings to compose 'Aakhri Alvida'.

"Each of these three tracks had a haunting feel to them though it has to be seen what does Sanjay have in mind for Strings to deliver this time around", the source continues, "It won't be anything ordinary for sure since Sanjay is an avid follower of international music and for his comeback film he is bound to ask for something exemplary. He could have gone to anyone else in the B-town to compose for him but he chose Strings as he wants a sound that is different from quintessential Bollywood entertainers."

While Strings, which has to its credit albums like 'Strings', 'Duur', 'Dhaani' and 'Koi Aanay Wala Hai' was busy with slogging it out in the studios, Sanjay confirmed that he has the band on board.

"Though others like Mika, Meet Brothers, Aadesh Srivastava and Anu Malik too would be composing music for the film, Strings is the first team with which I am getting started. I guess geographies don't matter when it comes to art", says Gupta who is also in talks with other composers, both national and international, to contribute further to Shootout At Wadala that would star Anil Kapoor and John Abraham in principal roles.
