Actor Mohanlal has proposed restriction on the release of
foreign and other Indian language films during festival seasons in Kerala.
Addressing a Meet-the-Press
programme organised here on
Wednesday, he said such restriction was imperative to
save the crisis-ridden Malayalam cinema industry. “The few films released in Malayalam are mostly
confined to festivals like Onam,
Vishu and Christmas. And even at
these times, we have to compete
with foreign and other language
films that are released in five to six prints at the same time. So if
we have to save Malayalam cinema, we must regulate the
release of films from outside the
industry. Many other States are
doing this,” he said.
He stressed the need to improve
the quality of theatres to attract
more film lovers.
