'Joseph Alex' & 'BharathChandran IPS'- 2 memorable characters and wonderful creation from Renji Paniker. What if they come together in a single movie is to the screens on fire with cracking dialogs right from the word go and that is what 'King & Commissioner' is all about.
Story: Just like any other Renji Paniker movie, the movie starts off with the murder of a high profile person Dr.Sudarshan (Nedumudi Venu) and the task is assigned to Joseph Alex to investigate. BharathChandran joins in between to assist him and what follows is the usual verbal war between the good and bad.
Now, what we expect from renji paniker is not a pathbreaking stuff, genuine humor or a cult classic, but a movie filled with fiery dialogs and thrilling confrontation sequences. Shaji Kailas's slick shots and fast cuts tries to make the movie racy but the problem lies in the duration which is more than 3 hours. Seems Shaji Kailas badly missed his favorite editor Don Max who could have made the movie crispier.
What makes the 3 hour long movie engaging is none other than power packed performances from Mammootty and Suresh Gopi. They are appearing in the same avatar after 15 years, but still they have not lost their energy levels and Mammootty as Joseph Alex looks more or less the same. We all know both are terrific in their dialog delivery and it was a pleasure to watch them back in full form.
Biju Pappan as Suresh Gopi's side-kick, Jay Kumar as minister and the one who played the role of Prime Minister were good in their respective roles, but SaiKumar trying to replicate Narendra Prasad's Swamiji role from 'Ekalavyan' was a let down.
Overall, this is neither a new generation cinema nor a movie with strong storyline as there are enough loopholes and logic-less moments, but a movie for the fans to cheer and have a go if you like typical Renji Paniker dialogues.
Verdict: Watch it for dialogues.
