Masters - decent and watchable

Masters is a thriller which unfolds the mystery surrounding few murders which happened in different places for different reasons . A taut screenplay is a must for a crispy thriller which masters have to a larger extent . The basic idea is brilliant and the way it has been woven with various incidents is smart and the new writer , jinu , deserves a pat on his back for it . The writing is honest and sincere though it isn’t completely free of loop holes . some incidents and characters have been picked from reality which is good but there are parts which required better care .For a debutant , it’s a good job and let give him some time as he could become a safe bet in future .

What stops masters from being a class thriller is it’s doomed direction . To be fair johny antony has done his best and has managed to make this film engaging which matters but had there been a more skilled director , the film would have been in a different league . The director’s inherent thing for masala has been largely kept under wraps but jhonny being jhonny , some stuff pop up once in a while ruining the mood . like that unwanted fight , just to display the heroism , in the first reel could have been avoided and also the only song in the film . Not to forget the climax which was more like ridiculing the spark of intelligence the writer had shown in the script .

On actors , prithviraj as suave police officer is good and there is certain maturity in his act . salim kumar , biju menon and sai kumar in cameo of sort roles are also good . all the girls expect pia bajpayee are decent in whatever little they have to do . One of the major drawback of the film is tamil actor – director sasikumar . With his expressionless face ,robotic body language and awful dubbing , he comes up with a clean bad performance .

Cinematography is adequate . BGM is effective in parts but rather loud and jarring in few other portions .
Overall masters is a engaging film which is watchable but could have been a lot better .
