    AB de Villiers - Batsman
    Born - February 17, 1984

    About

AB de Villiers is perhaps the most gifted cricketer in international cricket. And he doesn't stop there! He's a natural athlete in rugby, tennis and golf besides being a talented singer who has released his own album. So we're lucky he chooses to enthral us with his cricket.

AB de Villiers can bat at any position in any situation, and is such a great fielder that you'd suspect he could make the point area waterproof. He can keep wickets too! You cannot ask more of a cricketer.

Abraham Benjamin de Villiers made his debut for South Africa in 2004. Despite the plethora of hard hitting, brilliant fielding talent that has emerged out of SA every now and then, he made the world take notice. de Villiers has since established himself in the first team for every format of the game, helping the team win Tests, ODIs and T20s everywhere they went and at home, helping them stay at or near the top of the ICC rankings tables.

After Graeme Smith relinquished his duties post the 2011 World Cup, de Villiers was appointed the Captain of the South African ODI team.

de Villiers played for the Delhi Daredevils in the first three seasons of the IPL, even scoring a ton against CSK in 2009 in South Africa, proving his reputation as a single-handed match winner.

    RCB Highlights

    RCB vs. KTK, Kochi, 2011
It was a chase gone wrong until AB de Villiers decided it wasn't. A chaseable total of 162 was getting out of reach with 11 required off each over with de Villiers losing partners at the other end. So he took matters into his own hands moving from 35 off 36 balls to 54 off 40 with three huge sixes. Contest over, a win by 6 wickets.

RCB vs. CSK, Chennai (League game), 2011
Lax fielding had helped CSK post a daunting total and the team wasn't doing too well on the slow, turning track against the wiles of R Ashwin. But de Villiers stepped in and revived the innings with Kohli. His big hitting earlier in the tournament against KTK kept the team's hopes and the match alive. After de Villers' dismissal in the 19th over for 65 off 44, it was all gone.

    Daniel Vettori - Allrounder
    Born - January 27, 1979

    About

Daniel Vettori is a slow left arm orthodox bowler, a handy lower order batsman, a great cricket captain and currently leads RCB.

A New Zealander with Italian roots, Vettori has been playing International Cricket since he was 18 years old - that's 13 years of top flight cricket experience already. In this time he has moved from being just a stock bowler to being a strike bowler, from tail ender to able lower order batsman, from skipper to coach to selector. Daniel Vettori has withstood all these responsibilities thrust on him and all the assumptions to do a fine job for New Zealand.

As a bowler, Daniel Vettori is one of the most underrated talents in the world, a miserly and shrewd operator. Currently the world's second highest wicket taker in tests, Vettori's bowling is as lethal in T20s and ODIs.

He's an accomplished batsman as well, despite the fact that his preferred batting position means Vettori does not have as many opportunities to score big in limited over games.

A part of the Delhi Daredevils in the first three editions of the IPL, Daniel Vettori was not a certain starter owing to the interests of team balance and the 4 overseas players rule. Coming in to lead RCB however, Vettori has been a revelation. Operating with great freedom, Vettori plotted dismissals that are a purist's delight in T20 games and lead the team to the final of the 2011 IPL along the way.
    RCB Highlights

    RCB vs. CSK, Bangalore, 2011
Daniel Vettori made sure it was his team that won the penultimate league match of the 2011 season as the top spot was still up for grabs. His figures of 2/15 from 4 overs included the scalps of the technically skilled Badrinath and the powerful Dwayne Bravo. The home side cantered to an 8-wicket win and finished the 2011 IPL League stage on top of tables.

RCB vs. MI, Qualifier 2, Chennai, 2011
Daniel Vettori ensured that his team made it through to the final in their second chance. He removed two brilliant players of spin, Rohit Sharma and Ambati Rayudu before defusing Kieron Pollard to seal a 43 run win with a haul of 3/19 from his four overs. It was the bowler's equivalent of playing a captain's knock.

    T M Dilshan - Batsman
    Born - October 14, 1976

    About

Tillakaratne Dilshan is one of Sri Lanka's leading cricketers and one half of the IPL's most destructive opening pair. With his no holds barred batting, a livewire presence at backward point, canny off-spin and the ability to keep wickets if needed, Dilshan is an all-rounder designed to walk into T20 sides.

Dilshan made his international debut in 1999 and his scrappiness helped Sri Lanka mount many counterattacks from the middle order. Playing for Delhi Daredevils between 2008 and 2010, his performances in the 2009 IPL covering for the injured Sehwag and Gambhir kick started a purple patch that is still going strong.

His elevation to opener for SL in the 2009 T20 World Cup saw all hell break loose. Dilshan unveiled the Dilscoop, a shot that makes even the most tactically astute bowlers and captains look foolish for not posting a man in that most embarrassing fielding position, the long stop. Dilshan led the run charts that tournament, powering his side to the final and was subsequently named the Man of the Series.

Dilshan made sure he wasn't branded just a great T20 cricketer, smashing runs in ODIs as well as Tests, and he smashed them at an astonishing strike rate. He repeated his 2009 heroics in the 2011 50-over World Cup, yet again taking Sri Lanka to the final and leading the run-getters table. Dilshan's hard work did not go unappreciated and he replaced Kumara Sangakkara as the Sri Lankan captain in all formats of the game after the World Cup.

Picked up by RCB in the 2011 IPL auction, Dilshan did a great job as opener and part time spinner as RCB rallied to make a second appearance in the final of the tournament.

    RCB Highlights

    RCB vs KTK, Bangalore, 2011
If KTK thought Gayle's dismissal meant that the carnage would stop or at least slow down, they were wrong. Dilshan kept the Bangalore crowd roaring their hearts out with his brutal innings, slamming 52* off 31 as RCB raced away to a 9 wicket victory chasing 1

    Vinay Kumar -Bowler
    Born - February 12, 1984

    About

R Vinay Kumar is a medium pacer who goes against the odds in a batsman dominated with his cunning. He played for RCB in the first three seasons and for the now defunct Kochi franchise in the 2011 IPL before being returning to RCB following the 2012 player auction. Vinay took 30 wickets for Bangalore in his 33 games for the side and 12 wickets for Kochi in his 13 games for them in 2011. He forms a third of Karnataka’s potent pace trio with Abhimanyu Mithun and Sreenath Aravind and his return will see them reunite to create their magic for the Royal Challengers. His perseverance has seen him earn a regular place in the Team India limited overs side and he recently broke into the Test team, making his debut at Perth against Australia.

    Sreenath Aravind -Bowler
    Born - April 8, 1984

    About

A left arm pacer sharing a name with one of India's stalwart cricketers who also happened to hail from Bangalore, Sreenath Aravind was definitely the find of the tournament for team.

In a format of the game where bowlers are sideshow to the power hitting, Sreenath Aravind put the fear of pace, bounce and movement in the minds of batsmen, reaping rich rewards for his efforts. Teaming up with Zaheer Khan and Abhimanyu Mithun for support, Aravind was invaluable as a strike bowler for Daniel Vettori in the tournament.

Aravind has been a part of Karnataka's consistently successful team in the Ranji Trophy over the past few years. It's made incredible by the fact that Aravind was involved in a potentially career- threatening accident before he even made his first class debut in 2008.

His most fruitful year in domestic cricket yet, 2010-11 saw Aravind finish as the second highest wicket taker for Karnataka in the Ranji Trophy as well as for South Zone in the Duleep Trophy, forming a potent attack with teammates Abhimanyu Mithun and Vinay Kumar.

Sreenath Aravind was picked up by the management ahead of the 2011 season of the IPL. It's unclear if he would even have had the opportunity to play were Dirk Nannes not injured but Aravind stepped in as a replacement effectively, his 21 wickets from 13 games in the 2011 IPL ensuring RCB's progression to the final of the tournament.

Aravind's good show also meant skipper Vettori could afford to rest Zaheer Khan and try out various line ups to arrive at the right combination, find a good team balance.

    RCB Highlights

    RCB vs. KXIP, Bangalore, 2011
After Chris Gayle had blasted the daylights out of KXIP with a 46 ball ton, Sreenath Aravind stepped in to grind them into dust. He snapped up Abhishek Nayar in his first over, deceived Shaun Marsh for a return catch in his third and dismissed the Ryans McLaren and Harris in his final over. 4/14 on a pitch where his team had just blasted 205 in 20 overs, not a bad day for a bowler in a T20 game!

    RCB vs RR, Jaipur, 2011

RR were progressing steadily towards a good total, 73 for no loss when Aravind began the 10-over of the innings. The murderous Shane Watson and Rahul Dravid were both gone at the end of the over. A choke was applied then and just when Johan Botha threatened to break free, seaming the ball away ever so late to have him caught behind while swinging for the stands.

    Zaheer Khan - Bowler
    Born - October 7, 1978

    About

Zaheer Khan combines a pacer's natural aggression with a cerebral approach to make himself a deadly opponent in any format of the game. Naturally, Zaheer spearheads the Indian and RCB bowling attacks.

Zaheer, or Zak as he is affectionately called, made his ODI debut in 2000 and impressed everyone with his searing yorkers. He made a great bowling partner to another Bengaluru/India legend Javagal Srinath and the duo was vital in India reaching the final of the 2003 World Cup final.

Fitness problems however kept Zaheer in and out of the Indian team and it wasn't until 2006-07 that he transformed into the deadly bowler he is today. Zak has been one of the world's leading bowlers since then, a major threat even on sub continental pitches and nearly unplayable in helpful conditions. An integral factor behind the rise in India's test status, Zak was also the joint highest wicket taker of the tournament in the 2011 Cricket World Cup which India won.

Zaheer played for RCB in the first season of the IPL where he took the first ever wicket to fall in the IPL. He was traded to his Ranji home in Mumbai to play for Mumbai Indians where he helped them top the tables to reach the final in 2010. When Zaheer returned to Bangalore in 2011, it helped RCB develop the most lethal pack of pace bowlers in the 2011 IPL, a crucial factor in their path to the final.

    RCB Highlights

    RCB vs. MI, Mumbai, 2008
Zaheer helped set up the team's very first win in the IPL, against his Ranji side nonetheless. He got them the breakthrough with the wicket of big hitting Western Australia batsman Luke Ronchi, produced a superb direct hit to run out the dangerous Jayasuriya, took a calm catch to end fightback from Abhishek Nayar and bowled Shaun Pollock. Coming after the shellshock of the opening match against KKR, the win was to be one of the team's few bright spots in season 1.

    RCB vs. KKR, Bangalore, 2011

Zaheer shone through in the 4-wicket win in a rain shortened match. He had already bowled 2 overs for 13 runs and a wicket before rain struck. With the game shortened, he came back to bowl a tight third over conceding just 4 runs. His figures may read 1-17 but the contribution weighed a lot more than that.
