May be the extremely negative reviews floored my expectations so much that I found the film to be watchable. A decent first half with a few laughs courtesy of Baburaj and a typical below average Sibi-Udayan revenge saga in the second half.
Dileep worked really hard on the Mohini makeover and succeeded partially. Looks barring the face was very feminine. The problem was the facial makeup which made him look like a hijada in many scenes. Liberty of having a man dressed as a woman may have been taken a bit too far for our conservative and stuck up audience. I found some of the non-veg jokes to be hilarious and some not so. Never felt like it was downright terrible. Not drawing any comparisons here, if I can sit through the adult jokes in Delhi Belly and American Pie, I can sit very well through Mayamohini albeit the latter being tacky at best.
Baburaj is the real star of the film and evokes laughter in the theatre with his antics. Shajon was good. Biju Menon did justice to his role, but he could have been given some more room to play with. Lakshmi Rai and Mythili are there in the film as eye candy. Vijayaraghavan, Nedumudi and co where ok.
Direction by Jose Thomas is adequate enough to keep the pacing intact. To be frank, there is nothing much to do as a director on such a script. Camera work is average and music is downright terrible. Bad songs with average picturization. Editing is pretty good at places.
TL;DR: Mayamohini is a watchable flick for those who don't mind yet another Sibi-Udayan flick and can stomach a few non-veg jokes.
Rating: Watchable below-average flick.
