Thiruvambadi Thamban, the name and the initial news suggested that it would be a movie based on Elephants but the trailer suggested more of an action movie. So what is it actually.

Thiruvambadi Mathan Tharakan(Jagathy) and his son Thiruvambadi Thamban Tharakan are great Elephant lovers and they supply elephants for festivals. Once on their return from Sonpur gajamela in Madurai they meet the villain Sakthivel(Kishore). Jagathy kills Kishore brother accidentally and now Kishore is after Jagathy for revenge. How Jayaram saves him forms the rest of the story.

The story of hero killing villain's brother accidentally and villains revenge has been seen so many times and sadly in TT there is nothing new to the presentation and follows the same old pattern.

The first half moves at a snails pace and there is no proper flow in the story. There are some scenes to show Elephants and a romance track between Jayaram and Haripriya. The saving grace is the one or two witty one liners in the first half. The director wanted the 2nd half to be more of a thrilling action but sadly falls flat in it. The 2nd half contains only tata sumo's and highways. The villain's gang and hero's gang just goes through the highways here and there. May be the director wanted a road movie.

Jayaram as Thampan is ok. He comes up with his regular antics and one liners but action is not his territory. Jagathy, you cant say anything about his performance since the whole of it has been wasted by poor dubbing. The voice of the mimicry artist stands out clearly and looks like making fun of the great actor. Not only him there are also some other charcters with an odd dubbing.Nedumedi Venu is ok and Haripriya comes in a few scenes and a song. Kishore as Sakthivel is good and plays the role to perfection. Samuthrakani has been wasted in a guest role(his role in Shikkar had an impact, but here nothing). All other charcters comes and goes.

The cinematography and music have nothing to rave about. The BGM sounds good in one or two places. The director and scenarist have tried to come out with an action thriller but sadly both of them lost it and have come with a mixture of this and that. Overall its another one of those average so called action thrillers.
