SPIRIT - MY REVIEW
Review written on last Sunday (17th June)
"Wine is bottled poetry" - SPIRIT
"Mohanlal is a living poem" - Through SPIRIT
I work in Bangalore and film released in Bangalore on Friday. As I was traveling on Friday, couldn't watch it. Saturday , First thing I did
after reaching home was to try booking spirit.
Tried for ticket in Cinemax and Q cinemas. Most of the shows were
already full or only frst row seats were left. So went to Savitha by 3
pm to reserve tickets for second show and came to know reservation is
full for all the shows till Sunday night.
As I didn't want to wait for another day , went to theatre by 7 for the
9pm show.
And not surprised to see queue of around 50 already there.
As the ladies queue was small (less than 25 ) mom got the tickets
easily. Even in Sangeetha, Spirit was playing.
Both Savitha and Sangeetha were houseful and many left even before they
started giving tickets .
(in saritha , there was no one in Frst class
queue and a couple for balcony , why didn't they play Spirit in Saritha
the 1000 seater)
Film started at 8.40 itself (9 pm show). Thanks to Ranjith for wishing
Jagathy to get well soon. I was wondering why Jagathy was not remembered
during any titles.
Thought / Subject : In a day where sex and terrorism is considered to be major
concerns by so called new generation films. And many others struggling
to get a subject, Ranjith deserves an applause for taking up one of the
major concerns of the society.
Rating 2 / 2
Script / Direction : But after deciding what you are going to cook , if you cannot cook it the way you wanted , it will not taste good. Here Ranjith knew what he is going to cook. Started very well and made a good recipe. After the first half I had a feeling that this is gonna be another delicious dish from the master chef . But here were flaws and in the second half he failed to make it an exotic dish. Towards the end of the film , film lost its punch . After the racy first half , second half was average.
But the flaws in the script were overcome by the characterizations. Raghunandan , Plumber Manian , Pankajam , Captain , Alexi , Meera , Sunny , Sameer and the ASP were characterized in a perfect manner.
Rating : 1.5 / 3
Performance : At many places , script lacked the punch to hold the audience to the seat , especially towards the end. But acting extravagance by the finest actor of the country overcomes it . Be it a dialogue , a look or the shivering hands or the way he drinks and smokes , Mohanlal lived as Raghunandan. No one , yes I said no one , in this world can replace him. The scene just before the interval made me write the below quote.
"If he can act even with his fingernails , call him the Acting God..
If he make even the smoke coming out his cigarette act , call him Mohanlal..."
Thilakan was amazing as usual , Madhu was superb , Nandu had his career best role , Shankar wont get a better debut And Kaniha , Lena , Sidhardh , Tini Tom , Govindan Kutty and Kalpana did justice to their roles.
Rating 3/3
Others : Few dialogues are really catchy and when Mohanlal delivers it , it becomes the best.
Songs were placed at the positions where it was most needed . When the first song is to show the character of Raghu Nandan , other two songs are there to show his change. BGM really helped to set the mood , especially the day Raghu starts enjoying the world.
Rating 1.5 / 2
Last Word : I have never heard such a loud applause at the interval of a film. But Ranjith couldnt convert it to a standing ovation at the end. But still its a must watch for its subject and Mohanlal.
Overall Rating : 8 / 10
Verdict : Super Hit
