State govt mulls film regulatory authority
Thiruvananthapuram: State government is mulling setting up a regulatory authority to streamline the film industry in the state that ranges from film production to exhibition.
The authority to be called State Film Directorate will be modelled on similar bodies like State Power Regulatory Commission and Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI). Once the authortity comes into being final decision on contentious issues will be taken by the it. The decision of the authority will be binding on the various film bodies and firms.
The State Chalachitra Academy has now been entrusted with finalising the blue print for the formation of such a body based on a draft discussed in the cabinet.
The idea for such a body was mooted during the LDF regime and a committee was formed under the leadership of culture secretary T. Balakrishnan to study its feasibility.
