......... India tour of Sri Lanka 2012 .............

India is all set to tour its neighboring island nation for a 5 match ODI series and a T20I starting from the 21st of July. Despite being the finalists of last world cup, both these teams failed to reach the finals of recently concluded edition of Asia cup.

Since the World Cup, Sri Lanka’s main problem is that they are lacking a good captain. Although the was on Mathews after Sangakarra’s abdication, he was sidelined highlighting the point that he is too young for a such a big role. Dilshan’s leadership wasn’t note worthy. He failed to win any of the series he captained. Jayawardene, who stepped down as Sri Lanka’s captain in 2008, resumed captaincy after Dilshan. India beat Sri Lanka 4-1 in that tour. Jayawardene will hope to change things this time around. Sri Lanka is entering into the series with 1-0 test series victory and 3-1 ODI series victory against Pakistan at home.

Sri Lanka v India, 1st ODI, Hambantota

    India bat, Irfan Pathan picked

Toss India chose to bat against Sri Lanka

India's season started on a good note as MS Dhoni won the toss at a windy Hamabantota. "I've been practising tosses during my off days," Dhoni joked, referring to his poor form at the toss.

India chose to bat, and also chose to pick Irfan Pathan as their third fast bowler, and slotted him at No. 7, asking him to contribute with the bat as well. The only other frontline bowler retained from India's previous ODI, in the Asia Cup, is offspinner R Ashwin. Quicks Zaheer Khan and Umesh Yadav are back after a break, while left-arm spinner Pragyan Ojha gets his first game in nearly two years. Rahul Sharma, the legspinner who is involved in a controversy after news emerged of him testing positive for recreational drugs, was not picked.

There weren't any surprises in Sri Lanka's line-up, with left-arm-spinner Rangana Herath taking the place of Jeevan Mendis.

India: 1 Virender Sehwag, 2 Gautam Gambhir, 3 Virat Kohli, 4 MS Dhoni (capt & wk), 5 Rohit Sharma, 6 Suresh Raina, 7 Irfan Pathan, 8 R Ashwin, 9 Zaheer Khan, 10 Umesh Yadav, 11 Pragyan Ojha

Sri Lanka: 1 Tillakaratne Dilshan, 2 Upul Tharanga, 3 Kumar Sangakkara (wk), 4 Dinesh Chandimal, 5 Mahela Jayawardene (capt), 6 Lahiru Thirimanne, 7 Angelo Mathews, 8 Thisara Perera, 9 Nuwan Kulasekara, 10 Lasith Malinga, 11 Rangana Herath

    Wickets Details:

    2.2
Kulasekara to Gambhir, OUT, an unusual dismissal but Sri Lanka will take it, bowled round his legs is Gautam Gambhir, short of a good length on leg stump, he shuffles across to work it square, misses, it grazes the flap of the pads and knocks back leg stump, the hosts have struck early

    G Gambhir b Kulasekara 3 (6b 0x4 0x6) SR: 50.00

    31.3
Perera to Kohli, OUT, Run-out, Sehwag is walking back, better from Thisara, he held back his length this time a touch while bowling it straight, Kohli dropped it into the off side, Sehwag wanted the single and had taken a start but Kohli sent him back, Thisara collected and did superbly to throw down the stumps at the non-striker's end to catch Sehwag short. He's missed his century

    V Sehwag run out 96 (97b 10x4 0x6) SR: 98.96

    33.6

Mathews to Sharma, OUT, Angelo's struck, two wickets in quick time, did that nip back in? Short of a good length, landed on the off and appeared to just nip back in, Rohit was late on it and was eventually beaten through the gate, it knocked back off stump

    RG Sharma b Mathews 5 (8b 0x4 0x6) SR: 62.50

    37.4

Malinga to Kohli, 1 run, Century no.12 in ODIs for Virat Kohli, his third in his last five innings, full and wide and it's eased through to deep cover for a single, his prolific run continues, another excellent knock

    V Kohli 100* (106b, 9x4)
