Shutter is an upcoming Malayalam thriller film written and directed by theatre actor and
scenarist Joy Mathew in his directorial debut. The film, set and filmed in Kozhikode,
stars Sreenivasan, Lal, Riya Saira, Sajitha Madathil, Vinay Forrt. Resul Pookutty does the
sound design while the music is by Shahabaz Aman. The film, notably features a poem
by Pablo Neruda, set to music and sung by Shahabaz Aman.[2] Claimed to be a part of the
new-wave in Malayalam cinema, the film is set within two days and a night in the city of Kozhikode.
The film is an official selection for the international competition section of the
17th International Film Festival of Kerala..

The film portrays unexpected incidents happening in two days and a night in the city of
Kozhikode. The story centres around three characters: a Gulf Malayalee, a film director and
an auto driver..

The film marks the directorial debut of Joy Mathew, who is a well known face in the Malayalam drama
industry and shot to fame in films by portraying the central character in John Abraham's classic film
Amma Ariyan. Noted theatre actor Sajtha Madathil plays the female lead in the film while Apoorvaragam
fame Vinay Forrt and 22 Female Kottayam fame Riya Saira play notable roles. The film's cast also includes
about sixty experienced theatre actors from Kerala and Gulf countries. Academy Award-winning sound
designer Resul Pookutty makes his comeback to Malayalam film industry long time after the movie
Pazhassi Raja (2009).[4] National award-winning cinematographer Hari Nair wields camera for the film.
A longtime friend of Joy Mathew, Nair is also making his comeback to Malayalam cinema after quite a long gap with this film.

Ranjith is my inspiration: Joy Mathew..
Joy Mathew, who is making his directorial debut with Shutter, says his biggest inspiration is director Ranjith. "Ranjith and I have known each other for long.

We're both from Calicut and share similar interests. It was Ranjith who inspired me to be a film maker. And ever since I began the shoot, he is keeping a track of the progress. In fact, he knows the script of Shutter better than me."

Joy, who captured the Malayali hearts with his acting prowess in director John Abraham's most touted movie, Amma Ariyan (1986), says it had been his dream to direct a movie. "I'm glad that I'm able to bring together some of industries best talents in my debut. Many theatre artists are also part of the film."

About the movie he says, "The film is an incident that takes place on one day. It touches upon various socially relevant issues."

തുടര്*ന്ന് അടുത്തവര്*ഷത്തെ ബാച്ചില്* പ്രവേശനപരീക്ഷ എഴുതാന്* ഹരിയുമുണ്ടായിരുന്നു. ഞാന്* അപ്പോഴേക്കും സിനിമാമോഹത്തില്* നിന്നു മാറി ജേര്*ണലിസം മോഹത്തിലേക്ക് ് കടന്നിരുന്നു. അങ്ങനെ ഞാന്* ബോംബെയില്* ജേര്*ണലിസം ചെയ്തു. അങ്ങനെ ജേര്*ണലിസം കോഴ്*സിനിടയിലും ഹരിയുമായി ബന്ധപ്പെടാറുണ്ടായിരുന്നു. പിന്നീട് ഹരി ബോളിവുഡിലെ തിരക്കുള്ള ക്യാമറാമാനായി മാറി. ഞാന്* മാധ്യമപ്രവര്*ത്തകനായി ദുബായിലും എത്തി. അതിനിടയില്* ഞങ്ങളുടെ സൗഹൃദം ഉണ്ടെങ്കിലും എപ്പോഴും കാണാറില്ല. ഒരിക്കല്* ഹരി എന്*.പി. മുഹമ്മദിന്റെ മരം എന്ന കൃതിയെ ഉപജീവിച്ച് ദൂരദര്*ശനുവേണ്ടി ഒരു ഡോക്യുമെന്ററി ചെയ്യാന്* കോഴിക്കോട് എത്തിയപ്പോള്* എന്നെ ബന്ധപ്പെട്ടിരുന്നു. തുടര്*ന്ന് ഞങ്ങളുടെ സൗഹൃദം വീണ്ടും ഉണര്*ന്നു. പിന്നീട് ഞാന്* കേരള കഫേയിലെ മൃത്യുഞ്ജയത്തിന്റെ ക്യാമറാമാന്* ഹരിയാണെന്ന് അറിഞ്ഞപ്പോള്* വീണ്ടും ഫെയ്*സ് ബുക്കിലൂടെയും, ഇ-മെയിലിലൂടെയും ബന്ധം പുതുക്കി. അപ്പോഴേക്കും ഞാനൊരു സിനിമ ചെയ്യാന്* പ്ലാന്* ചെയ്തിരുന്നു. എന്റെ ആദ്യ സിനിമയ്ക്ക് ഹരി ക്യാമറ ചെയ്യണമെന്ന് എനിക്ക് ആഗ്രഹമുണ്ടായിരുന്നു. അങ്ങനെ ഹരിയുമായി ബന്ധപ്പെട്ടപ്പോള്* എന്റെ സിനിമ ചെയ്യാമെന്ന് ഉറപ്പ് നല്*കി. അങ്ങനെയാണ് ഹരി എത്തുന്നത്. 1984 മുതലുള്ള സൗഹൃദമാണ് ഞങ്ങള്* തമ്മില്*. ഞാന്* എന്താണ് മനസില്* കാണുന്നതെന്ന് ഹരി ക്യാമറയില്* കാണും. അതാണ് ഞങ്ങള്* തമ്മിലുള്ള കെമിസ്ട്രി.'-ജോയ് മാത്യു പറയുന്നു.
