With a series of flops behind and some poor selection of roles, Mammootty was going through a rough patch and in 'Bavootiyude Naamathil', he had the advantage of having Ranjith as the script writer and utilized the opportunity pretty well to fetch a good role.
Story: It's all about Bavootty (Mammootty), who plays a driver but is more than that to Sethu (Sankar Ramakrishnan) and his wife Vanaja (Kavya Madhavan).
Well the story is simple and cliched but Ranjith's dialogs and the feel-good narration once again forms the highlight. Director GS Vijayan, director of Sreenivasan's famous movie 'Anuvaal Modhiran', makes a comeback and has done justice in directing the movie neatly without any unnecessary commercial gimmicks.
The first half had some nice light hearted hilarious moments but for me it is the second half that was more effective even though it was more serious and dramatic. The dialogs in the pre-climax sequence was touching and the movie ends with a simple climax creating a kind of good feeling.
When it comes to the performances, it was not a challenging role for Mammootty but he made the difference with his voice modulation, subtle expressions and malappuram slang usage. Kavya Madhavan was effective in her fine role while the surprise package was Vineeth and Harisree Ashokan. Sanker Ramakrishnan, Rima Kallingal and Kaniha were ok in their supporting roles.
Overall, Bavoottiyude Naamathil is a neither a classic nor a pathbreaking new generation stuff, but it's a clean movie for all kinds of viewers and you can watch it for it's innocence and simplicity.
Verdict: Feel-good movie
Rating: 3/5
