Default Kammath & Kammath, Vishwaroopam- My Review

    Theater: Carnival Cinemas
    Show: 9.30 am, Jan 25 2013
    Status: HF

On the day of announcement itself, we all know what to expect from 'Kammath & Kammath'- just another routine entertainer on the lines of 'PokkrirRaja', with some cracking combination sequences from the 2 lead heros- Mammootty and Dileep.

The movie started off well with the history of Konkini people and how they migrated from Goa to different parts of India and the basic story line revolved around 'Kammath' brothers, played by Mammootty and Dileep, who comes to Palakkad to open a Dosa restaurant and the problems they face from there on.

Well, this cliched story is more than enough to produce an engaging entertainer but script-writer duo Udayakrishna & Sibi K Thomas seems to have tried out a feel good approach and at the end, it's neither a slapstick comedy entertainer nor a high volatage action masala.

The movie has a decent entertaining first half without any boring moments, and moves at a brisk pace till part of second half but as soon as the flashback sequences of Narein starts, the momentum goes down and the movie ends with a usual climax godown fight. Director Thomson of 'Karyasthan' fame could not utilize the opportunity much to generate a cracker of an entertainer and here is where a smart director like Vyshak would have made the difference.

Mammootty and Dileep were fine in their respective roles and tried to bring some difference as Konkini speaking Kammath brothers, but their strengths were not used completely as Dileep was not given enough funny on-liners nor Mammootty was presented as a macho big brother like in PokkiriRaja. Baburaj gets a good role after a long time since Salt N Pepper and he
scored well in comedy and action. But it's the combination sequences of Mammootty-Dileep-Baburaj, that makes the movie somewhat engaging.

Rima Kallingal was kinda ok while Karthika and Narein were completely boring. Dhanush's guest appearance could not make a superstar impact as such and he seems totally disinterested. M.Jayachandran's songs were so so with Dosa song being the pick of lot.

On the whole, the movie is colorful mixed with age old entertainment of light humor, action, sentiments etc , but it lacks the punch of a multi-starrer.

    Verdict: Strictly Average.
    Rating: 2.25/5

After numerous issues Kamal hasan's highly conterversial 'Vishwaroopam' finally released at least outside Tamil Nadu. To be frank, I did not have much expectations since it's from Kamal's making but sincerly wished to be a good movie because of his hardwork.

It's a simple story of one-man army fighting against terrorism, but it's the making and presentation that takes the movie to a different level. Kamal has reduced the entertaining elements and had gone for a realistic appraoch and succeeds in it. Had he given some more effort on the screenplay, we could have easily rated the movie as a classic.

It's a complete Kamal Hasan show right from the begining, be it his feminish acting as Bharathanatiyam dancer, then as a terrorist and finally as the saviour. More than his acting, his direction deserves a special mention and also some of the hardhitting dialogs. You may feel it as a documentary and over-violence in some parts, but the movie's genre demands it completely. Apart from Kamal, Rahul Bose as villan was classy as the strong oponent while Pooja Kumar was fine in her respective role.

Visually, the movie is top notch with brillaint cinematography and art direction and some of the shots captured in Afghanistan and US were mindblowing. Shankar-Ehsan-Loy's music and background score had nothing to rave about.

On the whole, vishwaroopam is recommended for cine lovers who expects something different but those who wants to see some entertainment alone, please stay away.

    Verdict: Good
    Rating: 3.5/5
