Default Sound Thoma - My Review

    Theater: TVM-Sreevishak
    Show: 6.15 pm, April 6 2013
Status: Balcony- full, 1st class- not full.

Janapriyanayakan 'Dileep' joining with present day mass director 'Vyshak' for the 1st time is an ideal combination to generate a rocking entertainer. 'Benny P Narayambalam's successful scripting films were mostly done by Dileep like 'Kunjikoonan', 'Kalyanaraman', 'Chandupottu' & 'Marykondoru Kunjadu'.

Story: The basic plot revolves around Thoma (Dileep), who has problems with his sound right from his childhood. Thoma is in love with a radio jockey, played by Namitha Pramod and he is neglected because of his sound problems. What follows is an expected turn around and ends on a happy note.

Benny P Narayambalam seems to be out of stock as he has rehashed many of his earlier works and other Dileep movies like 'Marykondoru Kunjadu', 'Pappy Appacha', 'Meesha Madhavan' etc. The only difference here is the peculiar characterization of Dileep, but it's Vyshak's fast paced direction that holds the viewers not getting bored.

Dileep once again goes for a make-over and excels as 'Sound Thoma' and he has to be appreciated for trying some variety and bringing a difference in an usual masala flick. Namitha looked cute throughout and does a decent job. Saikumar is fantastic while Mukesh scores well in a supporting role as Dileep's brother. Other supporting cast like VijayaRaghavan, Kochu Preman does well while Suraj is trying hard to be back on track.

Gopi Sundar's songs matches the festival mood, but his background score was loud at times. Dileep's certain dialogs were not clear due to the characterization but Gopi Sundar's rerecording made it even more difficult to understand the dialogues. Other technical aspects like cinematography and editing were ok.

Overall, Sound Thoma has nothing new to offer and everything is predictable right from the start, but Director Vyshak and team have managed to make it as an average watchable entertainer for this vacation season and it's far better than Dileep's craps like Mayamohini & Mr.Marumakan.

    Verdict: Time Pass.

But each one flies the best it can. Why compare one against the other? Each one is unique, special and beautiful.
