Default Mumbai Police review ----- Hats off, Prithvi!!

There is very little scope for an investigative thriller these days, thanks to the tried and tested themes in the so-called genre. Having very less chance for innovations, there aren’t much investigative films that evoke atleast a little interest these days. But here you have one film that not only made you have some expectations, also tried and almost succeeded in keeping you puzzled and at the end gives you a cold blooded shock. Hats off to the makers!

Though a bit unconventional, Mumbai Police is also a typical investigative cop thriller. It has a victim, it has a killer, it has a villain. Still for most of its running time, you are engrossed on the screen and you are puzzled and you are shocked!

As a film, Mumbai Police has its own share of flaws. The camera, bgm, direction, editing etc are just on par and have nothing much to boast about. What keeps you hooked is the script, hats off Bobby-Sanjay again. Though having many loose ends in the beginning, they managed to tie up it all at the end, that too by providing the ‘un’necessary shock in the climax. Roshan’s direction is the same as that of his Udayananu Thaaram days, nothing new though the script demanded some more tightness and pace.

Coming to performances, Prithvi was exceptionally good, Jayasurya and Rahman are ok, gave whatever the role demanded. The rest of the cast has nothing notable to mention about, some of them were a miscast too.

And for Prithvi, hats off!. One of the most brave superstars of Malayalam Cinema, or atleast the most brave Mollywood superstar at present. I don’t think any other star will have the guts to break away the shackles of his image like this. He would surely receive his share of praises for this one. Salute you for your brave heart.
