Default Oasis movie review zone- Memories Review UPDATED ON LAST PAGE

I am starting a new thread to post all my movie reviews..Expecting your support

ABCD- American born confused desi review

    Theatre- Sangeet (Bengaluru)
    Status- 60-65 ppl

Two US bred NRIs return to India, Kerala to be precise, live in adverse conditions and learn new things from the Kerala society which itself is a great university as per a dialogue mouthed by Lalu Alex in the movie.

Johns (Dulkhar Salman) and Korah (Jacob Gregory) are even hailed as ‘new generation Gandhis’ by the news hungry Malayalam media as they 'give up' their luxurious American lifestyle for the sake of motherland.

You will go terribly wrong if you expect yet another tale spun around patriotism and sprinkled with nostalgia, two features which stand out in any homecoming drama.

Johns and Korah are forced to go to Kerala and study in a college in Kochi. This comes more or less as a punishment from Issac John, Johns' father played by Lalu Alex. On reaching Kerala reluctantly, the duo finds their bank account closed and the spendthrifts find themselves all at sea.

Landed up in alien land with fresh troubles about to get hold of them, the adventurous narrative gains momentum which thankfully doesnt spout out familiar platitudes. Enriched with humour, powered by ebullient performances from the lead cast, a pace is set that never sends the audience into slumber.

When Dulkhar as Johns pulls it off with sheer ease with his impeccable accent and flambouyant charm, Jacob Gregory never dissappoints.

Aparna Gopinath (Madhumitha) has perfect grip over her character when Tovino Thomas (Akhilesh Verma) never goes wobbly in his antogonist act.

Anglo Indian (Dont know his real name) Fernandes was there to ensure some extra laughs and ABCD puts together all elements of a clean entertainer.

DOP Jomon T John along with costumer Sameera Saneesh ensures the fun festival is colorful all the way and actors all primped up. Gopi Sundar's (Johny mone Johny track) music lingers and editor Don Max puts up the show together neatly.

ABCD is one amusement packed jovial journey from Martin Prakkatt and crew. Give it a chance.

    Rating- 4/5

    Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani Review

    Theatre- PVR (Bengaluru)
    Date & Time- 20/6/2013, 10.45 AM
    Status- 65 %

Touted as the ‘celebration of love and friendship’ Yeh Jawani hai deewani, the latest offering from Karan Johar’s stable seems to have emerged a winner in successfully recreating all the clichés established till date in Bollywood . By cooking up this ‘old wine in new bottle’ pot boiler in typical archaic bollywood format, celebrated Wake up Sid director Ayan Mukherjee gives himself a bad name.

Kabir Thapar (Ranbir Kapoor) is fancy free, flirtatious, charismatic, confident and care free youth looking to migrate abroad. Naina (Deepika Padukone) is the shy and simple girl who wants a simple life in India. What happens if both of them fall in love ? Here the stage for conflict is set and the rest of the narrative takes you through a familiar journey and that too for the umpteenth time. When the makers resort to celebrating brainless stereotypes (studious girl will be a bespectacled shy wall flower), the ride becomes difficult to sit through.

With the lead pair showcasing a sizzling chemistry, Kalki Koechelin pulling in the fun moments with a feisty performance, things would have been different with a fresh story. An energetic performance by Ranbir and cute looks of Deepika laced with hilarious moments thrown in here and there, the first half is all fun and frolics, agreed.

Pritam’s music, Ranbir’s dance numbers, Manikandan’s photography together with memorable moments from Farooq sheikh and Dolly Ahluwalia once again contributes to the movie’s fair share of positives.

But the well predicatable script which seldom rises above mediocrity further pins down the second half, despite the glitzy and glossy song and dance routines that brings in some relief. The length further adds to the misery and it all turns out to be a forgetful experience.

YJHD , an attempt to conveniently cash in on the popularity of popular Bollywood romance dramas, can be given a miss.

    Rating- 2/5

    Status- Around 100 people

With a plot that travels the banal path along with cliched portrayals of love and friendship, Jean Paul Lal aka Lal Jr.'s maiden movie venture seems to have imbibed everything he grew up watching
