Bhai UAE is not India, they have to import because there is a negligible pharma industry or next to no real medicine research.
India produces 60% of the worlds vaccines and is leading covid vaccine research unlike what someone ignorant like Perumpachan thinks (it's not an insult, simply stating the fact). From day one India was supporting the research in developing the Oxford astrazeneca vaccine which is currently the world's largest used covid vaccine. Covaxin is completely developed and produced in India. Brazil has already ordered 12 million doses of Covaxin. In addition to this other vaccines being developed in India are:
- Zydus Cadila’s ZyCov-D (Stored at room temperature, into phase 3)
- Biological E's vaccine being developed with Baylor College of Medicine in Houston
- Gennova Pharmaceutical’s vaccine is India’s first mRNA COVID-19 (stored at -2 degrees vs Pfizer's 70 degrees)
- Bharat Biotech commencing Phase I trials of its intranasal Covid-19 vaccine (not injected but nasal intake)
While western countries can afford expensive vaccines, rest of the world will rely on vaccine makers like India producing large quantities of affordable vaccines.
The fact is even China has only given conditional approval for Sinopharm, but people were ready to get injected?!

No other developed nation or even the WHO has not approved Sinopharm's vaccine. This has not completed Phase 3 trials in China even (no peer reviewed study). The fact is for UAE nationals the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine is being distributed, while rest of the expatriate population the chinese vaccine!
Even Sinopharm has published a top-line view showing its COVID-19 vaccine is
79% effective, a fair chunk below the high efficacy seen from its rivals. But this is not a peer reviewed study, they have not released the details.

UAE has ZERO experience in developing or trialing vaccines! Vithyasam if you question the UAE arabs, you are either in jail or deported!

The above is a NY Times report, ithu UAE'il banned aayirikum, so not sure if you can read.
On the other hand the Oxford-AstraZeneca coronavirus vaccine that is being rolled out in India has been given approval by the MHRA the UK and the The European Medicines Agency (EU).
Covaxin is an emergency use vaccine and phase 3 trials are ongoing.
