If everything goes well, Suresh Gopi, Jayasurya and Asif Ali will soon be sharing screen space in their next film. Titled Apothecary, which means a doctor in rural areas, the movie will be an out-and-out entertainer with a socially relevant theme, helmed by Madhav Ramadasan, director of the critically acclaimed film Melvilasam. The director tells us: “Apothecary is going to be a commercial entertainer peppered with socially relevant elements. Unlike my previous outing, the narration and characterisation of the film is quite different.” The story is penned by the director himself while he, alongside Hemanth Kumar, is writing the script.
Without letting out more details, the director adds that the movie will be an edge-of-theseat thriller. “There is no such thing as a main character and supporting characters in the movie. All the characters will have equal importance in the film. Since the movie has in store many surprise elements, I can’t divulge more details,” says Madhav. He adds that the movie will have three heroines though the cast has not been finalised as yet. Apothecary, which will be extensively shot in the outskirts of Palakkad, will go on floor, next May.
The director’s maiden venture Melvilasam also had Suresh Gopi in the lead role alongside Tamil actor Parthipan. The movie, which was an adaptation of Soorya Krishna Moorthy’s stage play of the same name, was based on the Hindi play Court Martial by Swadesh Deepak. The film that was entirely shot inside a court room had won accolades from all quarters for its socially relevant theme.
