Although I had plans to see the movie first day midnight show, my plans got spoiled due to change of show time to 5AM. ANyway finally I could manage to see the most hyped movie in recent times obviously due to Lal - Vijay combo. We all know how Vijay's tamil movie gets accepted by the mass here. With Lal in addition to that the film has all the recipe to be the best mass movie of our recent times.

Now to the movie. Movie starts of with Complete Actor and Ilayathalapathy titles which rocked the theatre with claps. Then came the intro of Lal with Churuttu and all which again rocked the theatre. It was a superb intro. Then the movie concentrates on building up the character of Siva. Lal looks really great as don and as always looks great in Mundu and Shirt. Then comes the intro of Vijay which again rocked the theatre. Then comes the song with Lal and Vijay. In the song Lal's dance caused the first kooval in theatre. We all know he dances well, but his body structure now makes it a horrible watch which created kooval in the theatre. Then on the film moves on in a brisk speed with usual masala and Vijay's comic numbers which has worked out well. Lal's dialogue delivery most of the times does not give the must required punch which is the main drawback in the first half and creates kooval several times in the theatre. Otherwise first half is pretty decent and has whatever we expect from a Vijay's mass movie. Then comes the twist the Vijay's character forced to become police and comes interval with a word fight between Lal and Vijay and they parting ways. Vijay the entertainment machine rocks the theatre with laughter several times in first half especially when he takes charge as police officer and all. The first half comes to an end with a rocking performance by Vijay and a mediocre one by Lal.

Then we enter 2nd half which is primarily a Vijay's one man show. Vijay the mass hero is again in full swing in 2nd half. The fight between Sakthi and Siva goes on in full force in 2nd half which is a mixed bag being good at some parts. 2nd half at times tests the patience of the viewer with sequences we have seen in hundreds of films. There is no much comic numbers from Vijay in the 2nd half and it is all Vijay the action hero in 2nd half. The usual colony ozhippickal, ethirkal okke thanne veendum. Nothing special in the makings also in that part. Lal's character makes periodic entries but the problem is that the character is monotonous with almost same situations throughout. Either shouting Thookeda or Vandi Edukkeda and does not do justify to the character at all. Intensity of koovals increase in 2nd half for several of Lal's dialogues. Then the film turns toward the fight with villain with a loss at Lal's family. The coming together of Sakthi and Siva in the climax was well received by the audience with heavy claps. Then goes on to the final fight and then comes the happy ending.

Summary - Overall a decent mass entertainer which matches the expectation from a Vijay mass movie. A golden opportunity wasted for Lal to portay a character like Godfather or Sarkar.

Positives
Vijay - The one man entertainment machine rocking in dance, action sequence and comic sequence. We all know he is not a great actor but he is successfull in getting viewers entertained.
Lal's look - He looks great in mundu and shirt. Mundum madakki kuthumbol thadi vruthykedaayi thonnumenkilum.

Negatives
Too long and 2nd half could be trimmed to make it more racy.
Lal's dialogue delivery lacks the punch most of the times. His performance does not match our expectation we had from the posters. My expectation was something like Godfather / Sarkar role which could have been a unique character in Lal's career. But his performance lacked significantly to reach that level.
Lal's character is also half baked. Eventhough the character is supposed to be negative and cruel we do not feel the intensity of that cureltly at any point.

Crowd Response
Heavy claps for both intros.
Koovals for Lal's dance and several dialogues. Only scene in which we liked Lal is when he was left alone in the road after his arrest. Kalangiya kannum aayittulla aa face was done neatly.

Final Word - Go for it if you are a fan of Vijay mass movies.

Vaalkashanam - It is a tremendous opportunity wasted for Lal to have a character in the league of Godfather, Sarkar and all. Not much spoken but a tough underworld don. Such a presentation could have given his fans a character which they could be proud of. Whatever it is it will make Lal the businessman happy so who cares what character it is and what style of presentation is chosen. Avasaanam aaru oolayaayi ???
