Default BALYAKALASAKHI…Review….Engulf in the nostalgia of a forgotten mango time in our lives

Watched the movie at the new multiplex at Kollam at 3 p.m…..

Not going to the story, as it is known to all of us who have a semblance of touch with Malayalam literature…. by the greatest ‘man’ who wrote in Malayalam with his heart…Pramod Payyannur has done more than justice to the soul of the great Man by imbibing the spirit of Basherian thoughts…a perfect tribute to the outlook of Basheer about nature, love, passion for living ,freedom and the universe….Many scenes have a small touch from Pramod as bowing his hat to Basheer……some little touches that may not be big enough to put into words…….

The crucial and the best part of the movie is the childhood innocent love ,which is done appreciably by all the child artsists, and it gives the movie its emotional backbone…..From that foundation Pramod has created a beautiful movie, which touches various issues, from love, longing and separation to women empowerment and independence…

Performance…Pramod has done a wonderful job in selecting new talented faces for the child and young actors who all had the innocence and grace to imbibe the spirit of the real ‘Balyakalasakhi’…great feel……What to say about Mammookka…both as the seemingly arrogant but lovable father and the love-lorn Son with a tragic life, he excels…..the body language and dialogue rendition of the father is real treat and the gradual change in his appearance from a proud landlord to a miserable human being is spectacularly acted…And as the lover Majeed, he was able to bring a some divine handsomeness in terms of his appearance…and as a man hunted by fate, the performance was truly memorable….Isha Talwar also did justice to her role , to my surprise…all the supporting actors including Seema Biswas,Sasikumar and Meena did well….special mention to the actor who acted as Suhra’s father, his rendering in the song ‘Kalam parakkanu’ was touching…

Music was integral to the movie..Kalam parakkanu was a treat to watch and hear in the big screen..Merely hearing the song brings tears…big salute to the great Raghavan master and v.t.murali…but the song in the second half was unwanted...

The biggest pat is for Pramod Payyannur…for giving a memorable tribute to Basheer through a poignant yet realistic rendition of the great small book…for making nature another character in the movie, as Basheer would have wished….for excellent portrayal of the love thru all ages and for giving feather like touch to the songs…for the dedication and hard work behind this excellent outing…..SALUTE….

One thing for sure…the Great man will not turn in his grave today…

(N.B…ithinte review malayalathilayirunnu ezhuthendathu..nadannilla…vakkukal kondu vivarikkanakatha chila Pramod payyannur touches undu padathil…Basheerine kooduthal vayichittullavarude kalpanika manassine sparsikkunna chilathu…)
