What made me watch 7th Day on the Release Day?
This was not a hyped Movie…..Neither it had glorified film makers behind it…..Still, the makers were successful in creating an interest in the film among film lovers (especially of Thrillers!) by means of well made posters and Teasers and a Catchy Title (7th Day) with a brilliant Tag line “The Day When God Rested after 6 Days!”…..It was a nice build-up ……Plus, , this happened to be the third Thriller from Prithviraj within a span of an year after Mumbai Police & Memories!........Being an ardent fan of thrillers, I was tempted!..... It’s a while since I watched a Movie First Day First Show (About 7 Years!)……..
The Thriller Genre
Anyone with some cinematic sense can pull off a thriller with a few twists and turns…However, it is not that easy keeping the viewers hooked to screen for 2 hrs and making the twist and turns in the plot convincing……It does require some brilliance from the Maker …….The Biggest Challenge that lies before a writer of thrillers is to defy the clichés associated with this genre…..Let’s us see how 7th Day fares as a Thriller……
7th Day………The Plot
David Abraham, An IPS Officer under suspension comes across a group of youngsters by accident…..They have a strange, Mysterious story to tell…….They are haunted by the mysterious past and their lives are in constant Danger!........The IPS officer tries to solve the Mystery and save their lives!........He dwell into their past lives….and conducts a private investigation…….with the collected data, he fills up the JIGSAW puzzle!..........A Shocking JIGSAW!.....The Viewers are in for a complete surprise as there are a few superb twists in the Tale……….. This summs up the plot of 7th Day!.....
Akhil Paul…..The New Thrill Maker!
Akhil Paul made a decent thrilling script out of the above plot……. Interestingly, he followed the much acclaimed Jeethu Joseph Style in Pacing of Script!.......Here, the first half of the movie is slow paced and a bit shaky in the first 30 minutes or so ( I felt really bored)….. But, it gains momentum when the investigation begins and maintains the tempo towards the very end…..The Second half is racy and more of an an edge of the seat thriller……..... The Second half was quite brilliant!........In fact the filling up of JIGSAW Puzzle was quite a thrilling experience!.....But, the Script had its share of minor flaws…….The build up to the investigation was not that great……the clichés during the water fall scene in pre climax could have been avoided and also the dialogues given to the youngsters could have been better!.........Nevertheless, he did a very decent job!.......The Script with well executed twists is the Highlight of this Movie!
Good Debut………..Mr. Director!
For me, Direction means selection of the best available resources………He is not a creator in the strictest sense of the word……Still, he makes the final decision in all matters related to cinema…..Script selection, dialogues, casting, cinematography, Music, BGM, location,editing….etc.
Therefore, I will mention about the rest of the departments of the film here……….The cinematography and BGM were good……..But, the songs?......(not Remarkable) ………Casting , esp of the group of youngsters was just OK….(could have been better)……some of the clichés in pre climax could have been avoided!
Prithviraj ………..The Mr. Reliable!
Prithvi has done a rare Hatrick with this Movie……….This being the third impressive Thriller from him within a span of an year after Mumbai Police & Memories!......The transformation that he had in the last few years is really awesome……By doing good films every now and then, he has really expanded his viewership…..People loving serious stuff look forward to his movies with great expectations……His selection of films is praiseworthy……The brandname of Prithvi makes the film work……………..
Performance
The character of David Abraham was never going to challenge the actor in him……. Still, Prithvi, literally outshined others with his great screen presence & good dialogue delivery…….His punch dialogues in the Movie had good applause among viewers……. We have spoken about some roles being Cake walk for Lalettan and Ikka…….Now, we can say David Abraham was a cake walk for Prithviraj!
Verdict: 7th Day may not find a place among the Best Thrillers……But, Nevertheless, It’s an Impressive Thriller!
Rating : 3/5 (Recommended for Lovers of Thrillers)
LESSON for So called “Hit Makers”! (Content Vs Hype)
A group of new comers have pulled off an impressive Thriller within a low budget and it is getting positive feedback from Viewers…….while a much hyped movie getting thorns and stones from viewers for lack of content!..........Why do our so called Hit makers forget the basic rules of film making and making a mockery of themselves among fans?

"Prithvi is an actor who is like wet clay and in the hands of the right potter
moulds itself into the most remarkable shape that one can think of."
