Kochi: With Kerala Blasters back to their home ground, the cynosure of all eyes would be two icons in their own right, Sachin Tendulkar in the stands and Brazilian giant Roberto Carlos on the field, during Sunday’s ISL match here. For both the teams – Kerala Blasters and Delhi Dynamos – it would be their fourth match and on the points table the visitors are fifth with two wins and a loss, while the home team has four points from their last three games.

On paper, the visitors appear to have a slight edge as they reached here after winning last match, while the home team lost theirs at Kolkata. Hence, the pressure would be on Kerala Blasters. With Tendulkar set to watch the match and being a holiday, the stands are likely to be be overflowing with over 60,000 fans behind the home team, Carlos would certainly require all his experience to ensure that he gets his team to deliver its best and all eyes are on the veteran, if he would don the boot.

Incidentally, yet another Carlos, who will be keenly watched, would be the home team’s marquee player Spaniard Carlos Marchena, who has returned from Spain, after a quick visit, following an injury he sustained during the team’s practice matches. All eyes will also be on the home team’s coach Peter Taylor, whose tactics in the second match by resting the three key players, who did an excellent job in the first match, raised eyebrows.

Indications are that Marchena would play Sunday’s match , besides Josue Currais Prieto and local boy Rafi. Both of them who scored in the teams’ opening match would be in the starting line up. The troika of former Chelsea winger Florent Malouda, Brazilian Gustavo Dos Santos and Ghanaian forward Richard Gadze’s, all appear to be in good form and this could well be bad news for the home team.

However, the home team would be pumped up as they play in front of their fans and with Tendulkar watching them, they feel, it would be tough for the visitors. But one thing is sure, fans can hope to watch some quality soccer.

Kochi: Kerala Blasters will be keen to get back to winning ways when they take on in-form Delhi Dynamos in the ISL at the Jawharlal Nehru Stadium here on Sunday.

Dynamos boss and Brazilian legend Roberto Carlos said is relishing the prospect of his team playing in front of 60,000-plus supporters cheering for their opponents.

After succumbing to FC Goa in the opener, Delhi Dynamos grabbed two victories in a row against stronger opponents Chennaiyin FC and FC Pune City. But Carlos, the marquee-player-cum-manager of Delhi Dynamos, feels playing in front of a capacity crowd in Kochi will be special for his players.

“The majority of my players know what to expect when you play here. I’ve spoken to all my players and they know it will be tough with so many supporters helping Kerala. But if we are focused and motivated, we can get the better of them. As a player, I used to love playing at a packed stadium. I would run on to the pitch like crazy to win the game. So my players, too, will enjoy in front of 60,000 people. They need to go out there and have fun,” Carlos told reporters during the pre-match briefing.

Carlos played the opener against FC Goa for 45 minutes and has not made an appearance again. He remained non-committal about his playing role on Sunday, though he admitted he would step in if needed.

“In the last two games, there was no need for me. I will play if needed,” said the 2002 World Cup winner.

Kerala Blasters recorded a win and a draw from their home matches against NorthEast United and Mumbai City but suffered their first reverse away to Atletico de Kolkata but coach Peter Taylor is not giving any excuses.

“I don’t think fatigue can be an excuse,” Taylor said during the pre-match media briefing.

“We conceded poor defensive goals and they (Kolkata) certainly started better than us. We got punished in both halves but the pleasing thing is that we finished both halves strongly. We have to do better tomorrow,” the former England U21 boss added.

Kerala Blasters will be without midfielder Mehtab Hossain who was sent off during the last game. But while Taylor admitted Mehtab is an important player, he said there was an opportunity for someone else to prove his worth.

“Delhi Dynamos have made some very good signings. They have a fantastic head coach in Roberto Carlos. I’ve seen some players during their time in England; (John) Riise and (Florent) Malouda are very good players. It’s a big test for us. Certainly we respect Delhi, they have a good squad but we have to make sure that when we enter the field, we show what we are capable of,” said Taylor.

Indications are that Kerala Blasters' marquee player Marchena would play on Sunday, besides Josu Currais and local boy Mohammed Rafi.
