The expectations for Bangalore Days was obviously sky high as it was a directorial venture from arguably India's finest female Story teller Anjali Menon and starring the young stalwarts of Malayalam Cinema. Unlike my other reviews, I am starting from the performances of the cast and then concluding with the technical side as I believe the technical side of Bangalore Days overpowers the starcast and the performances by some distance!!
Performances:
Dulquer Salmaan: Dulquer plays one of the 3 cousins named Arjun!! Even though Dulquer has played roles similar to this umpteen times, amount of genuineness that he brings to the character is incredible! He is extremely natural and has got tremendous screen presence that sometimes even when he is in the same frame as a terrific actor like Fahadh, you couldn't look at anyone else but Dulquer!! Dulquer looks play him to good effect too as he looks extremely charming even with his stubble and unkempt hairstyle!!
Nivin Pauly: Nivin plays the now 'cult' Kuttan!! Nivin pauly has blossomed into a seasoned performer and is trying out different roles!! His role is filled with humour and his sense of coming timing as well as some of the expressions were just wowww!! The audience were in splits during most of his scenes and his character was the most loved character among the audience! Nivin completed a rare hatrick of hits in 2014 and looking at some of his projects lined up this year, Nivin will be having a couple of hits more!! Nivin got the loudest and biggest response for the intro among all the lead actors.
Fahad Fazil: Everyone knows what an effortless actor Fahad is. The role he plays 'Shiva' is in vintage Fahad territory. Even though his character is exactly opposite to the other lead characters in the movie, he has come out trumps showing what versatility he possesses.
Nazriya: Nazriya plays the cousin named Kunju!! No Malayali actress could have done her role with such cuteness which makes us wonder who can do similar roles once Nazriya fades off after her marriage.
Parvathy: Her role was the sweetest role in the movie! Everyone who sees the movie will relate with her and you needed an intelligent actor like Parvathy to carry off the role.
The supporting actors also played their part to perfection especially Kalpana
Technical Side:
Gopi Sunder: There is no better Music Director in Malayalam than Gopi Sunder as he is showing the same with each of his movies. All the tracks were superb and BGM was extraordinary.
Sameer Thahir: Perharps the finest Cimeatographer in Malayalam, Sameer Thahir's frames were awe inspiring and takes the movie to such heights.
Anwar Rasheed: Have not seen such production values in Malayalam cinema. Anwar Rasheed can take a chunk of the apprecaition coming towards BD as BD can put a lot of big budget hindi, telegu and tamil movies to shame. Credit goes to him along with the cinematographer for making bangalore look so much better in reel life and giving the film a rich look. BD proves Anwar's search for good cinema
Anjali Menon: The biggest hero of the movie is Anjali Menon. The biggest compliment she can get is that her movies can outdo any Karan Johar candyfloss flicks. Her biggest forte is her understanding of cultures and relationships which she has shown from Manjadikuru right upto BD. Her characterizations gave equal importance to the 3 young superstars which shows her credibilty in writing! With BD, Anjali Menon has become the topshot director in Malayalam along with Jeethu Joseph!! Rest assured that her next movie will bring in more bucks!!
Bangalore days is one of the most beautiful movies that can come out of any language in India! It is a celebration of relationships like only Anjali Menon can do!! Forget the occasional flaws and cherish this movie experience!!
