Innathe kalathu DVD vs blu-ray ennu parayunna pole in 70s and 80s, there were two cassette formats: Betamax and VHS. Betamax came before VHS. So I think a lot of old malayalam movies may be on BetamaxGrowing up in the Gulf during the era of VHS and Betamax tapes, I remember watching such films on tape with Arabic subtitles on them!

beta was a flop format. sonys greed to capture the market failed due to high price point and industry (mainly porn industry) choose vhs as their format and it won! sony later released digibetas and lot of channels still use it.
