I was less than 10 years old when one of my all-time Mohanlal favorite films called Yodha released. Did it succeed in the BO?

    Was Mayamayuram a big flop?

    Thanks

Mayamayuram was a really nice film. Its another of my favorites and I commented that it may well be among Ranjith's best. What an interval! Whata climax!

Yodha was a super hit.. Released with papayude swantham apooose, Onam 1992.
Mayamayooram is still holding a record in Perithalmanna Alankar (Now KC Movies), which showd with least number of viewers for a matiny. But movie is really a good one!

I had seen both these films from the theatres.
Yodha released 1992 Onam alongside Adwaitham and mammu's pappayude swantham appoos(PSA).
It took a very good openeing.. but mysteriously slid later..probably cos the families preferred PSA. Nevertheless it completed 100 days as noon-show in a few centres and IS A HIT. Adwaitham became a bigger hit than Yodha.PSA was the Onam winner that year(olathumbathirunnu ...song took the families by storm.. i remember very well). It was a very very rare victory for mammu over lal in a direct clash. altho both of lal's Onam releases defeated mammu's 2nd Onam film that year- Kizhakkan Pathrose.

Mayamayuram released in 1993.. it had a very quiet release..without much fanfare.. there was no publicity whatsoever.
It flopped miserably, altho the film was fantastic.

    another thing Aravind..
Yodha had generated a big pre-release controversy over its name. It was originally titled "Buddha". even posters came out with that title. But Buddhists turned against the name, claiming the film portrays their traditions awkwardly- and Sangeeth Sivan, the director was forced to change the name to Yodha at the last minute.
