It was an awesome day of Christmas,until I stepped into the cinemas to witness this tortorous presentation from one among the directors I adore the most,Mr.Priyadarshan,even after hearing unanimous unfavorable remarks from my friends & admirers of the director alike.


A remake of Priyan's own bollywood offering 'Malamaal Weekly'[2006] which itself has been inspired from the 1998 English comedy Waking Ned,the 163 minutes long movie tests the patience of viewers with loud characters,uninspiring humor,unintentionally funny emotional sequences & uncatchy music.I never expected wonders while entering the cinema hall,but this one was way beyond the tolerance limits one will associate with a renowned director like Priyan,a couple of steps worse than his recent dud Geetanjali.


The major issue with the movie is the basic plot that doesn't make any sense in the context of mollywood,unlike Malamaal Weekly which could connect with the sentiments of a major section of the audience to the north.The fairy-tale like quality that the story demands is absent in the narration,a major reason why this movie misfires unlike successful Priyan blockbusters like Thenmavin Kombathu which are set in fictional villages with stories invlolving different characters making a story by itself.It is evident that many characters in the film are rehashes of Priyan's own charcaters from his films in the past,but doesn't make much impact here because of poor screenplay by the director himself.The last retort,some cliched slapstick numbers too backfired & failed to make necessary laughs.



Coming to the performances,I felt disappointed witnessing Innocent struggling with his comic timing like a shadow of his own prime.Nedumudi Venu,K.P.A.C Lalitha,Nandu etc did their part well eventhough there wasn't anything challenging to portray.Jayasurya was wasted with nothing much to perform,the same being the case with Piya Bajpai who struggled with her lipsyncing.


Music by M.G.Sreekumar failed to make any impact,being played at awkward junctures in the storyline.



Overall,Aamayum Muyalum is an epic dissappointment from the veteran Priyadarshan which stands nowhere near his creations during his heydays.
