He is a strong Tamil supporter.

Even this speech began referring to the Tamil cause. But may have been something more to it. Anjali is not exactly a tamilian.
There was a controversy on Malayalam film awards few years earlier when Bharathiraja was the jury chairman. There was an accusation made that he had not wathched all the movies to be evaluating them.. and there was a court intervention too. Not sure if that also has got something to it.
He was an active protestor against Kerala for the Mullaperiyar issue. I think he even sent off the Malayalee heroine (Iniya) of his movie which was shoot-in-progress. Not sure if it was his personal insistence or if he sent them back because of threats for shooting disruption

So basically it could have been an anti Malayalee stance that he took in that speech. Funny thing was that he was posing with Hand over Mamoottys shoulder in the group photo.
Anyway, Mysskin managed to put that issue under carpet :P. Else, some media man could have blown this out to a controversy.

Shivaji Ganeshan um Kamal Hasanum valare mikacha nadanmar thanneyanu. I have no difference of opinion in that. Thamizh samskarathilulla aa expressiveness um enikku manassilakum.
Pakshe Thevar Makanile aa rangam enne nirashappeduthi. It was over the top. I am pretty sure it would not have happened if Bharathan really directed that scene.

Enikku ettavum priyappetta Kamal cinema Nayakano, Moondram pirai yo onnumalla. My favorite film of his is the Telugu classic Sagarasangamam. My favorite non-Mammootty movie as well. If there is one role that Mammootty can't do better than Kamal, that is Sagarasangamam. The reason is it's a story of a dancer. Emotional ranganghal Mammootty thakarkkum. But alas he can't dance.
Kamal thakarthabhinayicha padamanu Sagarasangamam. There were many inspired acting moments in that movie mainly from Kamal but also from Jayapradha.
Athile enikku ettavum ishtappetta scene il pakshe enikku Kamal oralpam overacting aayille ennu thonni. Jayapradha Delhiyil nadakkunna dance program nte brochure Kamaline kaanikkunnu. They were sitting in a lawn. Kamal athile pages oronnayi marichu nokkunnu. Oro page leyum dancers nekkurichu Jayapradhakku paranjhukodukkunnu. Then he sees his name and photo and he is literally stunned. He could not stop crying. Aa oru reaction alpam over aayirunnu ennu enikku thonni. Addehathinte reaction kandittulla Jayapradhayude reaction was simply outstanding. The poise and grace with which Jayapradha did that scene was amazing. Appol avide Telugu samskaram over the top aakum ennu namukku generalize cheyyan kazhiyilla. Of course Kamal is the protagonist and so his reaction could be really emotional. Pakshe aa rangam Mammootty aayirunnu cheythirunnathenkil (Mammootty won't go over the top....athu vere karyam), athinte pakuthi emotional aayal polum Mohanlal fans parayum overacting aanennu!! That's double standards. I am talking about the fans of Mohanlal of 1980s and 1990s, when Mohanlal too was a superb actor.

Whatever it is, this scene is arguably my favorite scene in a non mammootty movie. I have lost count of how many times i have seen it.
