    Default Review: Bhaskar the Rascal

Director Siddique tries a lot in this film- he wants this to be an emotional drama for the family audience, a mass action film for Mammootty fans and a comedy entertainer for the rest. End product is a film with a decent first half and mediocre climax. Or in other words , it is okayish.

The basic plot is predictable- Mammootty a widower with a kid, Nayanthara a widow with a kid and they get married in the end after beating the heroine's ex ( JD Chakravorthy in a poorly written role ). But Siddique has something unexpected for you- the UNDERWORLD. Why he opted for such a twist I don't know but that really weakened the film.In fact during the last 10-15 mins you might have mistaken this film for Shootout at Lokhandwala.

The film has 2 kids, Sanoop Santhosh and Anika, doing prominent roles as . And so some of the sequences were kinda annoying, like the never ending (huge smart)phone conversations between the 2 . But the film picks up gradually. The comedy scenes may not be liked by all as they mostly slapstick and irrelevant to the plot, like the Rani Kabeer stuff , but they were generally good . And Mammootty was in top form and he made everything with him very engaging, Nayanthara is a stunner and was convincing as a self made . Isha Talwar in a cameo too was very pleasing to the eye and totally irrelevant . Saju Navodaya,Shajon and Harisree Ashokan were fluctuating between funny and irritating.

Songs were average and oddly placed.2 stunt sequences could have been avoided, as were some melodramatic scenes. But thanks to Mammootty and some laugh here and there, film was still watchable until the climax portions. It was totally stupid and logic-less to say the least. Many of the happenings were left unexplained and was very unconvincing and that would leave a bad impact on this film.

This is the kinda movie you'd probably watch later on TV or computer but also the one you'd not regret watching in Theaters, especially during vacation time

    Rating : 2.5/5

HF with returns. After OVS people will definitely choose this over other films. EE shifted to an 150 seater and IMR is still not picking up . so competition will be between OVS and this
