Movie : Uthama Villain
Cinepolis Manjeera Mall, Hyderabad
Status : 80-90 %
Director : Ramesh Aravind
Starring : Kamal Hassan ,Nassar
Uttama Villain tells the story of Manoranjan, a big super star. First few minutes of the movie take us through Manoranjan as a super star and a his relationship with people around him including his wife,Father-in-law, Manager, son and Doctor Arpana with whom he is having an extra marital relationship. The story takes off when he comes to know about two things; A) he is having a daughter from an old relationship and B)he is suffering with 4th stage of brain tumour.
Now before death he has two tasks in hand. He wants to make a movie which audience will remember, with his Godfather Margadashi. Then to bring his family together. Rest of the movie is how he manages to make the movie and untie the differences with his family.
Eventhough story of cancer patient trying to patch up everything before death sounds familar, Uthama Villain do not come in that genre. The creative team, especially Kamal as screen writer has done a great job in coming up with a script which is creatve and new, giving more importance to the movie within the movie. The folklore told in the movie within the movie will make us splits into laughter for most part of it, even though gets jaded in the later half. Screen play has also given enough space to develop Manoranjan's relationship with his family before his death. Watch out for some genuine emotional scenes which utilized Kamal's histrionics to the fullest.
The music needs a special mention here. Ghibran did an excellent job in keeping his pace with the variations of story telling. Versatility of ghibran is evident in all songs. Music especially during the folklore and koothu episodes bring goose bumps.
Its not easy to keep the attention of audience to two stories at a time. Ramesh Aravind did it successfully with a smooth execution of Kamal's screenplay. The transition from one story to other and one episode to other was cleverly done without any glitches.
In the acting side its a Kamal show from start to finish. He came up with two towering performances. He was good in his role as uthaman were he needs to be a bit exaggerated. Even though it was over the top at times Kamal managed to make it believable. But the real show stealer role was him as Manoranjan. He played the insecurities and vulnerabilities of Manoranjan with absolute perfection. He was top-notch particularly in emotional scenes.
Another notable performance came from Nasser, who played the villain in the folklore. He matched toe-toe with Kamal in the scenes in which they were together and at times outshines Kamal. Urvashi, Andea, Jayaram and all other supporting cast did their job well.
All in all Uthama villain is an enjoyable movie for its creative screen play, different treatment and smooth execution.
Don't Miss it if you are a fan of genius named Kamal Hassan.
My Rating : Liberal 3.5/5.

Thanks.. Good review..
For we know in part, and we prophesy in part.
But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away.
